The Medford USMC Fighter Flipper is Misunderstood

Check your backspacer, my example has gaps between the handle and spacer. I have an On Belay that was similar, and 45 bucks in back and forth shipping to them, it wasn't really rectified. Doesn't effect the performance of the knife, but is irksome when tolerances in manufacturing are discussed.

What ya think Dano?

I ended up trading mine for a Marauder-H. I don't think I'll ever love a knife without a finger choil. It's my curse. Years of PM2 and SNG carry have made other knives feel so.... distant in use. It looks to be a simple mod since there's almost enough room already, but alas I had a PVD coated blade. I also wished I'd went with 3V, so it makes sense to come back to a satin 3V model eventually. Probably go faced and flamed like you MacLaren1. Can't imagine buying a Medford without any flame work. Wish they did more vulcan finishes these days. A 3V USMC FF with a nasty vulcan and flamed handles, hardware and pommel would be great for me. To a lot of people that's damn near the Ed Hardy t-shirt of folding knife configurations, but I can't help liking the idea of it.

Will likely need ti try the fkipper fighter some day but for now my Proxima and General are the "beasts" in my hoard. I like the smoothness and reasonably slow hydraulic feel to opening on Medfords. As much as I like my BM Anthem it flops open and closed so easily it feels toy like to me. I like a more controlled opening and knowing where the blade will be. Both of these monsters will still shake closed though.

Never understood the appeal of Medford. I'm glad you guys enjoy them though. If I could be convinced of any Medford it's got to be the the slim midi.

Can't speak for the slim midi, but the similarly-sized praetorian slim is quite excellent.

While I own a few large Medford knives they really are not as useful to ne as the 187 G10 models. These give me the wide, hand filling grip I want but in a reasonably light pocketable knife. The General and Proxima are really like anchors despite their good looks. The 187F and 187RMP will be the keepers for me with the beasts likely being catch and release good faith attempts at trying really large knives

I have the exact same model, a 187 RMP "vulcan" finish. The heat coloration came off the blade very quickly with use with mine. It looks like this now:

I wondered how well that finish held up......obviously not too well at all. Makes them more "lookers" than users.

For a Medford this model is IMO one of the better users. It's too thick in the blade and awfully chunky in the handle, but it's not that heavy (for a Medford) and it feels great in hand.

Grudgingly I've come to love it, despite my general disdain for overbuilt, tacticool BS in general, and Greg Medtard in particular.
