Hi guys!
I got a small package, when I got home from work. It was from Otter Knives, Solingen. I ordered the knives some days before. In the spirit of your TOTM-Thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/987312-September-TOTM-German-knives! I thought I should share them just new and completelly unused.
First is a mid-sized fixed blade ... it looks very much like the traditional pathfinder knife I remember as a kid a school collegue had it. He was at the pathfinders (Pfadfinder on german) and he carried that knife very often. Being honest, I never really like the knife, but I read on Otter Messer that they will sell it out on both versions carbon steel (with or without backsaw) and stainless steel (with or without backsaw). I decided to get a carbon steel (what else?!) without a backsaw. The sheath is made of metal and painted black.
The blade and sheath
The other knife I bought was single bladed Wharncliffe knife with wood handles. It´s made of carbon steel and the bolsters are steel as well as the bolsters and the pins. The wood looks and feels like ebony wood. Very smooth and warm in hand. I like the handleshape. It looks a little like a swayback with wharncliffe blade. All in all the F&F on this one is great, centered blade, no play, halfstop and a might tanklike snap.
Some pics
(I bought two of them, the other one is in similar condition - but no pics, that would be the very same pics at all)
The last one is a real beauty, I think. It´s a singlebladed staghandled knife. I loved that at first view on their HP. I didn´t know the width or better said the broad stag scales. The blade is carbon, too. It has nickelsilver bolsters and brass liners. Only one thing is not so great, the blade is not centered. But ok, it doesn´t rub against the liners and looking at the stag scales is just great... some gnarly looking and feeling stag.
Some pics
And a comparison shot with the might #73 for the size of these new ones
Looking at these knives, the craftmanship of german knives is great imo. I love everyone of them. I hope you guys & gals enjoy these few pics of my new arrivals.
Thanks for looking!
