The mighty Otter is walking... (new arrived)

Hey, Where've you been pal? :)

I also picked up a B&H Bundeswehrmesser the other week. Got it for the son of another forum member, but he already has one. It needs a bit of work as it looks like someone has been using the blade tip as a screwdriver. These are great work knives though. Had my Mauser over 30 years, it's had a lot of use, and apart from a very slight bend to the corkscrew, it looks almost like new.

Those German camp knives are cool. I'm going to have to hunt one of those down.

In the meantime, here otter, otter, otter. I think a person could get an otter through customs in a backpack. Haha.

Hi guys (& gals),

some times ago I posted a that I had an Otter with camel bone scales on order. Well, they sent me the wrong knife. So I had to return it and they told me, I gonna get the knife I ordered. When I came home from work today - the package was in the kitchen.
The knife it contained is a great looking piece of Solingen craftmanship, imo. The liners and bolsters are made of steel, which is typical for Otter. The smooth camel bone feels just great and warm in hand. It opens and closes like a beartrap and the whole construction is just rocksolid.

As usual, I gonna let the pics speak :D

The grain is just great on the bone

... and the obligatory in-hand-pic with a size comparison to today´s EDC :)

Wow! Great knife Andi. Congratulations. Nice to see that the spirit of the great cutlers of Solingen is alive at Otter. They should hire you as an agent my friend! :D Thanks for the pics and I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty more of that lovely knife :)

Wow! That is a great looking knife Andi. That camel bone has some really nice character to it. That looks to be a perfect size for EDC as well. Great score!

Thanks for the kind words, fellows :)

It just feels great in hand; the bone is really smooth. It´s a good example for the skills of Solingen - even nowadays. Some cutleries don´t seem to work as good as they could here in Germany. But it´s a nice example for the "old spirit" somehow. Be sure, there will be some pics of it in future - after some sharpening ... it came pretty dull and the backspring is not plain on the liners, when the knife is closed. But this are the two only issues I can see now.

Duane - it feels just plain great in hand. The bone has some darker shades and a great grain. Really nice and well made. The size is just great and has the same thickness as many other two bladed knives - the bone scales are pretty think.

Actually I wanted the knife when I saw it in their shop. And when I ordered the two ones for Thom and Brian; I though "why not".

I´m looking forward seeing how the knife will perform after some time of use... especially on the undyed and untreated bone if it will get darker or something like this.

Hi Andi!
Love those knives my friend, like a lot of others, I think the Ebony scaled Wharnie looks fantastic, as well as the Stag beauty-once again your thread is always a great and welcome read my friend - thank you for sharing.

Edit: WOW!, that Sheepsfoot Camelbone looks to be a great knife! Otter are pretty cool knives alright, my one is a work horse-but you already know that! ;)

Hi Duncan!

It´s great to hear from you :)

About that ebony scaled Webermesser - I fear it´s actually no ebony, but some dyed hardwood. However ... nevertheless a great working horse, as well as the Hippekniep I sent you some months ago and I know it in good hands...

The camel bone sheepfoot is in my pocket right now and, though the blade is dull, it´s just a great knife. I gonna give some long-time-experiences for sure.

I was just looking at their site and they don´t seem to have that knife in their setup anymore. Propably I got their last one  but there are several others in camel bone available, one in spear point, just for example.

Great stuff Andi. I do like the look if their camel bone. You know I had already been taken by their spear point model with that material.....hmmm.....

I've been enjoying using my Webermesser these past couple of days. It got a good sharpen yesterday, ready for work tomorrow and a
day of fusing and box cutting. I had a feeling it's not ebony, but I don't miss such luxurious wood on such a good honest work knife.

Very cool! What a great-looking combination - between the smooth white bone, and the sheepsfoot blade, that one looks awesome!
On Good Friday, I gave away my Ankermesser to a knifeless friend, so your pics are really tempting me to get another Otter!

I can attest to that one's quality, Scruff. I had one of those a few years back, spear point with white bone, and it was a really good one. Gave that one away, too, lol... They're so good, you've gotta share 'em! :D
