The Mill Has Landed!

Congrats on the new toys Daniel! This year is going to be the year for shop upgrades for me as well. I will be getting a Wilmont Tag this month along with running 220 to the shop so I can use my heat treat oven. Ive been looking at mills, but to be honest, I have no clue how to use one! I might have to see if Wilson would come show me how to use the thing.

Would be glad to Chris. Heck, if Daniel lived closer, I'd have been there before he unboxed it. :D

Much appreciated! Congrats on the Wilmont, I just looked it up and it looks incredible.

I ran the 220 to my first shop myself, it was not too bad to do at all. I hand dug the trench with a pickaxe! (ok that part was hard, lol) Run extra wire while you are at if you can.

I have been reading up on the mill for a few months now and there is a lot to it! I will need to practice a bunch before I am ready to make anything.

:D Hey thanks again for all the help!

:D Just in and bolted down! This is a major improvement on the road to precision.

It is a high torque mini mill with fixed column! For a mini mill it is on the large side, perfect for my shop.

Collets and other gear...

Clamps and more! That is a granite surfacing plate on the right. I finally got some dykem too!

One more of the mill! I still need to clean it with mineral spirits and oil it down with synthetic oil.

Yes, I still use all of those files too! The tin snips are used to cut all of my sheaths after they are molded... the block of metal on the magnets is my backer for hand sanding; it is a piece of 5160 steel with rounded edges.

Daniel: I'm thinking of buying a small mill. How has this one LMS worked out since you first posted.
Thanks!

I'm very happy with it. They have good customer service too...

It's a mini mill and has to be ran that way but I think it is great!

Everyone says you will spend more on tooling than the mill and I really couldn't see how... I have though, it is easy to do.

The equipment package is nice too, I'm happy with everything. The end-mills were of no use to me (quickly died on tool steel and Ti) but I think he mentions they are just a start... probably good for softer metals.

It's probably the best mill in it's class, I'd get another. I want a massive Bridgeport next but that's a ways off. You don't need to pour a slab for this one!

Thanks for the info. I may do more slotting and drilling, than milling. Started making folders and need something more accurate than a drill press. Don't have space for 700 lb. mill! Thanks again!
