And it’s just that different colored G10 doesn’t tend to have much difference in cost. Can’t imagine why it would be hard to stock. It’s a real head scratcher.
I'm not really sure either. As a preface, I'm not deeply upset about this. I'd just love to see more blue and other colours in general, although that's a lot further down my list of things I'd like to see from Benchmade. The Proper family comes in a nice red G10 or a beautiful green micarta, the Bugout comes in blue and ranger green, there's the Grizzly Ridge with orange, the 940 in green etc. So there is colour, but there just doesn't seem to be too much of any one colour, particularly blue in their lineup of standard models.
Presumably, this is because a neutral tone like black will appeal to more people, or at the very least not be unappealing! Besides the lack of rigidity in the Bugout's handle scales, another thing a lot of people criticized about the Bugout was the bright blue handle (which I happened to like, I thought it fit the model well)!
As well, like I mentioned previously, they seem to keep colours, particularly blue, contained to their limited editions as well as options for knives from the custom shop. In the last little while, off the top of my head there's been maybe about a half dozen limited editions excluding single-dealer exclusives (because afaik, the dealer dictates the design) and gold class knives. The limited edition Proper, Rift, Presidio II, Valet, Mini Grip, International dealer exclusive 940 and most recently the Ultimate Experience limited edition Mini CR.
Of those 7 knives, 3 prominently featured blue (the Proper, Rift and International limited edition 940) which means there's more blue here than most of Benchmade's current standard catalogue I'd argue. Again, as to why they seem to be containing blue to their exclusives, I'm not too sure.
I don't want to derail this thread about the Mini CR with ad nauseam talk of "blue" so I'll end it there with this:
