The most underrated fixed blade of 2015

The original was a good knife and was copied by Fallkniven. This new version, with its thinner blade and continuous curve cutting edge should be one of the top tier knives in its category.

Hasn't snuck past anyone in the Cold Steel forum. CS has introduced a handful of winners this year.

I saw it on Blade HQ for that price and it was sold out. I actually shouted with disappointment haha.

Yea man Cold Steel is stepping up their game.

Thank you capitalism.

I have always felt the Master Hunter has been the best bang for the buck in that size range. What's not to like? It has a great blade profile with a nice handle and decent sheath. Now available in one of the toughest steels around for under a hundred bucks.

The 3v version has more belly and a much thinner grind and taper than the previous VG1 design. This should noticeably improve cutting performance while taking full advantage of 3v toughness.

Nice, I wasn't aware they changed the geometry. I'm stoked

This might soon become the next Pm2/Bk2 gotta have knife.

It does indeed look like a real winner in that steel. The original was tempting but 3v? My goodness.

I had enough confidence in the design and quality to give away my VG1 Master Hunter to a friend in need of a good knife.
One of these days I'm gonna pick up a new version as a keeper.

Heck Yea brother

Wow. I need more friends like that. hahaha

Anyways, I found it at my local store

It felt great. It also comes with the secure ex sheath that retains the knife without the nylon snap strap.

I don't need anymore knives, but the sickness has me! Please help.

I have the Carbon V MH that I bought in 1994, and the VG1 Sanmai I picked up much later.
But if I can find the 3V version I will probably pick it up as well.

I don't really see much love for the Tops Baghdad Boxcutter. Ive been EDC'ing one for the past few months and it's been amazing for as a sharpened pry bar cutting and prying on items you don't want to ruin your high dollar folder.

Mora Companion.

Just kidding. Fixed blades aren't exactly my area of expertise. However ESEE has introduced a couple new fixed blades this year, I believe.

Wow, thanks for sharing. I haven't bought a Cold Steel in a very long time, but will be picking up one of these.

I'm glad they're using Kraton for handles instead of that rubbery gooey crap that broke down over time.

When I saw the words "underrated fixed blade" I thought you were reffering to a Hess knife. I have the one pictured below; for $80 it is an incredible value and comes hair popping sharp. The blade is made by GEC. IMHO it beats the Cold Steel: it is cheaper, better looking, and USA made.

I note that the above site erroneouly lists this knife as model 36JSK Country of Origin Japan.
36JSK is the VG1 Sanmai3 model.
The new 3V model is 36CC and Country of Origin is Taiwan.
Ouch, Makes sense with the cost and imported us steel.
VG series stainless can only be made in Japan there's no steel export

Hahaha, the old "Mora beats all" argument.

Yeah, I'm excited about that rb3 esee

Cool man, that is a great classic design,

I never heard of Hess knives until now, thank you.

Wow,very beautiful handles, 1095 with a good price too.

However the Cold steel would be a better "user" knife in the field.

Let me explain the excitement for all

3v steel is the latest premier steel for fixed blades.
Incredibly tough and takes a keen edge. Powdered metallurgy with refined structure.
(Haven't used it yet myself)

Its what S30v was to folders year ago.

The best bargain for a 3v blade was ~$200 until now.

Its a semi stainless, but it has the best black coating possible. Diamond like Carbon. "DLC" super durable, scratch resistant, and adds no friction to cuts like other coatings.

Add this to a proven design under $100 = excitement

I have an Carbon V SRK from 1989/90 and a Carbon V MH from 1994, both heavily used. Neither of their Kraton handles
have deteriorated over thes 25 years or so. Because of this I am always puzzled by reports of the handle "breaking down".

I still think the best knife is a Mora Robust.
For under $15 shipped you can get a decent blade with a decent sheath.

Cold Steel has used, at some point on some models, a soft rubbery garbage that would fall off in chunks if you actually used the knives.

The hard Kraton has always been awesome, but wasn't used on all models.

Wow. I guess I have been lucky then. Would love to see a photo or two of these poor qualty handles if anyone
comes accross any.
