When I first found and joined this community, I was taken back by all the acts of kindness and good nature I witnessed. I knew I had stumbled upon something very special and then later learned that something is called “The Porch” and the traditional knife community. The GAWs here have been really generous and creative but, most of all, they have been really fun and it makes me happy even when someone else wins. Although I haven’t won anything here I did recently win a GAW from a knife shop and felt it was my time to pay it forward. So I have this to offer…a 1989 Remington Bullet Trapper R1128 in cocobolo. Apparently, they made these things really solid in 1989 because this is a well-built, workhorse of a knife. It looks like a user but the blades are in near perfect shape. I gave it a little love and a light sharpening and it looks great.

The only requirement I have is that you are an active member of this sub-forum. Otherwise, an “I’m in.” will do it.

If you would be so inclined to contribute something positive to this GAW and thread, I thought it would be nice to share a photo and a few words about your happy place. No knife need be included but this is a knife forum so feel free :)

I will leave this up through the weekend and draw a random number sometime early next week.

I'll go first. Yosemite is my heaven and I go there every chance I get (even sometimes for the more touristy spots like Glacier Point). But my favorite place in the whole park is Chain Lakes which is located in the SE corner of Yosemite right next to Sierra NF and Ansel Adams Wilderness. It takes 1.5 hours on a dirt road just to get to the trailhead then ~5 mile hike uphill from 8000ft to closer to >9,000 ft in elevation (which isn't too bad until you try to breath). But when you get there…you are treated to this.

This is my happy place. I typically have all three lakes to myself and as much trout as I want. And I would be MORE than happy to take any one of you with me there sometime :)

Good luck to everyone!

One of my favourite places to visit, alas it has been years since I was last there, took the risk of getting this photo of the tunnel entrance to the valley floor, but, survived :)

Nice Giveaway, I'll take the dreaded number 1 spot so others may have a shot ;)

I have a trapper just like that, a 73 also in Cocobolo that I won in a past GAW so I'll take the first second third(I must type too slow, haha) spot away without officially entering. It's a really great prize so whoever wins it will be a very happy camper! And allow me to be first third person to thank you for your generosity! I wish you and the winner the best of luck.

From a mathematical standpoint, the odds are the same no matter where you post :) If the number comes up on a non-entry I will generate another one along with a secondary just in case.

Gary, you are a brave man! I always wanted to take that photo but never had a good opportunity. There is a spot off the road really close to there where you can walk down to the Merced River without any of the crowds. When the water is flowing nice it is very zen. You need to get back there one of these days :)

I'll play. Thanks. Great Sand Dunes NM.

You are very welcome, sir!

This is Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales Fl. Really peaceful place and this GAW reminded me that I need to go back. So thanks for that!

Great GAW and I’m in. Please and thank you.

I've been to Florida but never heard of that. It looks very serene and peaceful I can see why that is your happy place. Very nice!

waverave,

It’s not far from LEGO Land if you ever find yourself in that area. There’s a moat with Coy fish in it and the squirrels will come up and eat out of your hand.

Much appreciated, Darren, and that is a very nice Remington Bullet. I'M IN!
Here is an early GEC copy of the Remington, that kind of made their reputation at the beginning.

1st year (2006) #73 Scout in Sheffield tobacco bone and 440C

Wow very cool I didn't realize that was their first year production knife. It looks awesome :)

I'm in...I guess I post enough here to be "active"
Heres my happy place ,White River in NC Ark.

I love the White River I spent many a day fishing on it :) In fact, true story, I lost my Buck 110 that I got for graduation on the White River after a cotton mouth decided to fall into our boat and I flipped the whole thing over freaking out! :) I'm primarily a city slicker but I used to live in Horseshoe Bend (graduated from ICCS in Brockwell first year the school was built in 1988). If I wasn't fishing the White River I was on one of the many lakes fishing most days. I still have family there and visit when I can. Beautiful country and great fishing.

Great giveaway! Thanks for the chance! Please count me in!

You are very welcome and good luck!

Thanks Darren. I'm in. OBX in January coming in to Hatteras.

I was stationed out of Norfolk and lived in Va Beach from 89-94. I used to love visiting Cape Hatteras and the NC coast when I had the chance. It really is a beautiful area.

I'm in.
Very cool GAW. That Bullet knife with cocobolo looks great. Here's a few Case Elephant toes.

Thank you and good luck! Those are some mighty fine toes :)

I love the place and wouldn't live anywhere else.
Now about that Buck !:p

Yeah it wasn't my finest moment but, like I said, I was a city slicker and am not a real big fan of cottonmouths lol. I do wish I still had that Buck.

Count me in.
And the Grand Tetons is just one of the many places I would love to not come back from.

Beautiful! I really want to get up to the Tetons. I have done myself a disservice by not visiting any of the awesome mountain ranges or beautiful landscapes of the northern states but I will get up there one day.

This little guy could use a big brother, I’m in!! Thanks for the chance.

I won’t say this is my favorite happy place but it’s definately one I enjoy. Anytime I can be out fishing in great weather with beautiful scenery I’m happy...throw in some fish and I’m really happy:thumbsup:
