The New BRK 'Little Brother' Aurora!

HD,
some good points there....

BRK did do a true scandi:

I missed out on this one! What a beauty!
I can only imagine a exposed full tang with the same handle contours and slightly longer blade. Would be my dream scandi!

Wow....Thats a nice one. I love the blade profile. A "full tang" and Micarta, and that would be my kinda knife!!

Interesting knife for sure but like others I'd have rather it been in A2 or a choice between A2 and 3V. I ain't got no beef with 3V I just don't see paying extra for it especially since I haven't found anything yet my knives in A2 can't do.

Just like the Lil'Canadian I'll probably have to pass on this one.

Except that wasn't a true scandi, it was a convex-scandi as well. I owned one for a while and while I liked it at first I never could warm up to it. It was 7" long with a 3" blade.

BlackHills, thanks for the heads up.

I'm curious, why was it hard to warm up to, for you?
Also, what kind of tang did it have? Stick or hidden full?

You're welcome. The biggest problem was that handle was too small for me. The shape was good but it needed to be about half an inch longer at least. I wear a large glove and like Spooky I prefer a handle that fills the hand. I wasn't crazy about the steel, it sharpened easily enough but it didn't seem to hold a good edge. I also didn't care for the convex-scandi grind, though I was in the process of making it a 'true' scandi before I sold it.

It was a stick tang (no rivet).

Weren't those scandi blades that they bought and then put handles on?

not to blow this off topic but the knives above look like the ones i used to have from helle (those people know how to scandi)

Sal is right - it took me about 2 hours to put a true zero grind on the new Bushcrafter with Japanese water stones - my new Koster took about 1/3 of that.

It was more convex than I would like - but it was VERY close.

Your right and wrong. Bark river had two prototype runs for this knife. The first was with 1095 carbon steel blades that Mike bought from Helle and there were only 15 of those knives made. Then Bark River made a short prototype run of 50 blades of their 13c26 steel in scandi-convex, the same grind as the later made Nebula. I had one of the first ones with the carbon blades and it was a true scandi. The first ones also had the wost etch (uneven/poorly placed) of any Barkie I've seen. The handle was a bit short for me so I sold it to a fellow forum member. I have had two of the later made stainless models as well that were convex/scandi. They have been traded.

Hey Blackhills- did you sell me the knife in your picture? I had one of the later ones that had the same handle.

Interesting...thanks. I believe the knife you have pictured is the same one I had.....I have that exact pic saved from when I was looking at it. I must have either bought it from you or the person you sold it to (and they used your pics). I sold it on ebay about two months ago after trying here first.

The Aurora is sort of long for me so this smaller version I'd probably like better. I have a Bravo and a Gunny and like the Gunny more.
