The NEW Post Your Campsite/gear/knife/hiking/anything Outdoorsy Pic Thread!

Seeing your photos was what inspired me to post that photo! You live near an incredible part of the world, and my stay was far too brief! The panorama is considerably more impressive when viewed in full... I recently had this image printed at 24"x88" to hang in our home - much more fun to look at that way!

Still not as beautiful as the real deal - I'm envious of your proximity to the park. Thanks for sharing your photos, they really reminded me of the trip!

the colors of most of the plants here were absolutely stunning. I took all the pictures with my iphone so some don't even come close to displaying the actual vibrancy of these plants

sitting here going through these pictures i feel myself getting envious - looks like really great places to travel to -- thanks for sharing the view

Matthew - immediately behind the peaks in the distance up the canyon in your panorama (toward the right) is this location:

And over the next divide from that lake is this one:

And if you go up the slopes to the left on the copper creek trail and then head cross country, you get to places like these:

And not far up the left fork of that canyon you will see this

Etc, etc, etc - lots of beauty up there.

What part of the southern tier? I grew up in Big Flats and went to Horseheads High School.

I'm in ski country in western NY (around Springville). Horseheads is a pretty area - not too far from Ithaca, and all the gorges. Nice place to grow up?

Thanks for sharing the pics! I'll see if I can add a few from my trip there...

My 11 year old son and I did a quick mountain bike ride in the snow today before blizzard conditions enveloped NY/NJ/CT. We took four pictures. I had an SAK in my Camel Back.

Here he comes with full goggles:

And there he goes:

With the storm hitting hard like it is, the next outing is likely to be with snowshoes or X-C skis.

Looks like fun. There's a guy around here who puts sheetmetal screws in his tires so that he can bike on ice.

Yes back in the day we would put sheet metal screws in the tread of a spare set of tires. A little bit of work but so is picking yourself up from a spill all the time.

Never have road a bike in the snow... I do a OK amount of road biking and dabble in cyclo X from time to time.

Not much snow in this part of the world. :( Looks like fun.

Great to see people getting out on their bikes in the snow.
I commute to work on my bike year round. My winter unit is a FS Mtn. bike. I run Nokian Extreme 294 studded tires on it. They are expensive, but cost much less than a trip to the emergency room.

pix aren't loading for me, and someone's pix earlier were not showing up. not sure why.

check out the Pugsley by Surly, it's got fatter tires than a standard MTB and should have good flotation even on snow that a reglular fat tire will sink in. only problem is that is uses special ultra fat tires and rims and tire availability is limited. if they ever stop makign tires for it, you're screwed (unless you rebuild the wheels with standard rims).

Great stuff Beanbag!

With the 11+" of snow we just got over here, it's time to get those snow shoes out!
