The NEW Post Your Campsite/gear/knife/hiking/anything Outdoorsy Pic Thread!

These are old pictures, but in honor of Pinnacles becoming a National Park last week, I thought I would put them up. Not my typical pictures of my beloved sierras, but the coast range has its own beauty.

Yeah, my buddy mentioned that to me. Good for it  I keep meaning to head up there and check out the caves... will probably do it this early summer. See any condors while you were there?

Gorgeous, J  I'm glad you got out to take a break! What was that, 1/3?

It's nice to have such historic places surrounding you. I love the moat, and the shot of the young trees planted in rows.

Thanks! And yep, 1 of 3. Still two to go. Nailed international economics yesterday:thumbup:

High Falls. Town Creek, Groveoak, AL.

A place several miles upstream of High Falls Park that I saw while crossing a bridge, and stopped to check out on the way back.
dscn6266l.jpg

Followed a flooded path that paralleled the water, then a drainage down to the creek below what is probably an unnamed fall.
dscn6285.jpg

A chute on the other side channels the water so that it creates a very fast-moving wave train.

Proceeding to Little River Canyon National Preserve to see Little River Falls.

Little River Falls with glimpses of the new Little River Bridge and the new deckworks they've put for people to come down and view the falls from.

My intention was to leave after a few pics and visit DeSoto Falls, and possibly Noccalula Falls in a quick tour of Alabama's biggest waterfalls, since flow like this is pretty rare.
Some kayakers had gone over the falls before I got there, and two more were pulling up when I was leaving. I turned around so I could go back and try to get pics of them. Along the way I met a couple of photographers there to capture the falls while they were flooding, and had some discussion and traded email addresses with them. Then met the two kayakers as they came up to determine where they would go over. Kinda neat..I pulled up Facebook pics on my phone so they could see where the rocks were near the base of the falls that were underwater with the flow this high. Gotta email them my pics, and the email of one of the photographers. Maybe one day I can hook up with them for some whitewater kayaking.
Did my fuzzy image forgot the camera was in manual act on the first one:(

Hahaha, it's snowing! I'm gonna go ride my bike in the snow. Won't get to do that very often:D
My next door neighbor put this on her Facebook page. Probably closer to true than we want to admit...

Oh, and here's a gif I had saved of High Falls(not mine, found on internet) when it's frozen. I would have loved for it to have been like this yesterday!

Love it! Awesome, Owen. Those kayakers have some cajones. Man, the water really is flowing in your neck of the woods

Yep. Going over the falls looks spectacular, but I can see doing that. There's some really wild rapids in the canyon that take some serious skill, though, so somebody like me that was depending on dumb luck and divine providence would take beatdown after beatdown, and probably do a lot of swimming. Ok, more than probably...
I've seen videos, but not with flow like this. They said they wouldn't do some of it, right now, and mentioned one section that is called "Suicide" for some strange reason:D

Oh, I did get my bike out, but had to go to bed before any of the snow started sticking.

Then while I was asleep, my neighbors came and slid around on my yard, and built snowmen...

Where is that? I'd love to explore up some frozen streams. Doesn't get cold enough for that around here much, but might get to break out the Microspikes next week!

Sweet!

I was all set for an overnighter this weekend, ready to break in my new Duomid, but misinformation and few other factors basically canceled it. Needless to say I'm a bit grumpy. At least the wonderful weather made for beautiful sightseeing while driving.

Anyway, I'll share some pics from the initial set-up and guyline cutting etc.

I don't know if I'm very happy with the solo inner in the duomid. Might have to pick up another inner instead. We'll see what happens, I still need to fine tune the shock cord lengths and figure out what the optimal pitch height is.

I love creek shots, Lambertiana! Great stuff.

HM, if you're going to keep putting up tents in your yard, your neighbours will start thinking you're having frequent fights with your wife, lol:D

Well, here are some more - mostly in Sequoia/Kings Canyon. It's no secret that I have a soft spot for water flowing over rocks.

And, to illustrate the dramatic range of flow in Sierra streams, both of these were taken at the same spot. First, at the end of the summer in a very dry year

Second, during spring run off (May) in a wet year
