Around 2 dozen of my coworkers including a friend we're honored on the field of the Superbowl last night. The medical staff that saved Damar Hamlin. It's great they are getting attention, they are truly gifted people and I am proud to support them. The thing is, that is what they do every day, they save people's lives Hamlin's case isn't some special, miracle case . It is what they do every day. Just wish they would make that known.

Where I was working at midnight last night

Not that I'm happy to be permanently injured, but I am happy those injuries mean not having to do that shit and crawl through those spaces (for regular work, at least) anymore. Or squeeze my huge ass through a framing cutout, attic hatch or into a tiny closet to fix something that ain't shoulda been there in the first place.

Yes, but none of those people are famous...

....though I'm totally tracking ya. The same could be said of yourself, since you keep the infrastructure that underpins the whole life-saving crew from becoming patients themselves...

74 out this afternoon. Feels like the end of winter. 82 on Wednesday. Might be the beginning of summer.

I'm not ready.

Done washing trucks today after a week of rainstorms.

It will probably rain again just to spite my work haha!

I have never purchased a brand new vehicle in my life, but as I age, I am starting to think having a warranty might be a nice thing. I am always chasing repairs, and to be honest, I get sorta tired of wrenching all the time.

Then again, I don't get too excited about having a loan for one.

Yeah, my two vehicles are aging into the junkyard and new is looking very appealing after all the recent hassles. My buddy has 4 or 5 vehicles (family of 6, now with 4 drivers) and wrenching has consumed all his spare time. He's at his wit's end. Our local (walk to it) auto shop finally lost our business too, which is inconvenient.

Victory at the kiln!

Loans do suck. I've never been good enough at wrenching to really work my way out of something significant.

The first new truck I ever bought, I drove until my mechanic said, "It's time to let it go." I tried explaining that he fed his family on my repair bills. He just smiled and repeated, "It's time."

What was even scarier was that when I told my dad that I had traded that truck in, he said, "You sure got your money out of that one." For my cheap, old man to say that made me wonder how at risk I had been putting my family over the last few years by just allowing me them to get in it.

I have since become a fan of the relatively low milage used vehicle. And a hungry mechanic.

Congrats at the kiln!

Pics?

It's funny how age can change tastes and need.

I always swore I would never by a mini-van. Now I'm thinking it would be incredibly useful as a daily for my family.

Room for the kids, my junk, decent mileage, lower upkeep cost, and upkeep.

Bought my first new personal vehicle at age 55 (bought 3 family cars I hardly ever drove) and got the extended warranty and the extended loan term to afford it, both of which have turned out to be fortunate - but I digress. I am a mechanic by nature (and at times occupationally), but like many things in the modern world, some are not repairable by regular humans, or for any cost worth paying - my washing machine drum turned fire pit is a perfect example of that - and I am learning to let go of my need to fix things manufacturers should not be having break during an average 10 year ownership....
....and I lucked out and bought a new Honda Ridgeline, pre-pandemic, worth nearly as much now as when I bought it in 2018. What it was also blessed with was a "factory installed" mouse nest, which caused a bunch of electrical problems (throttle body replaced at 4k miles, ECM at 12k and finally the whole harness a year ago), all covered under the warranty. I love that thing and will likely drive it until the wheels fall off - it holds a family of four quite comfortably + college gear for one under the bed cover, gets 25+mpg on the highway and does all the regular truck stuff while driving like a mid-sized SUV (Pilot and Ridgeline share cab sheet metal). I had it in for inspection and the mechanic said he had looked at them, but they've gone up a lot in price since I bought mine. It might be a unit-body truck with all-wheel (not 4x4) drive, but for five years it's done all the hauling and truck stuff I've asked of it and made more than a few family trips - and I hope the wheels don't fall off for very long time.

I have a bunch of 4x4s, as I like to go off roading, work on a farm, and also like to frequent places off the beaten path.

Saying that, part of the nature of these activities is constantly replacing tires, bushings, bearings, end links, and occasional engine work. Not to mention extensive cleaning suppies.

It's fun driving them, but boy is it a labor of love. I used to have a Honda 4x4 quad, and loved it. May have to look into a side by side and maybe downsize the fleet a bit.

You should take a look at the Mahindra roxor.
It's a pretty good remake of a Willy's jeep with a little common rail 4-cyl diesel.

I thought I had lost all my bookmarks from over the years. I clean out some of my files by hand on occasion, (Ccleaner's a joke) and accidentally deleted one I shouldn't have. I always do a bookmark backup beforehand, but when I got done cleaning up the files, it (Firefox) wouldn't import the backup. Finally found the solution. Had me sweating, haha. I have a metric sh*t ton of bookmarks.

Anyone have any TeroTuff-handled knives? In orange, in particular? I want some roarange handle material, but don't want to deal with grinding that much G10 anymore. Orange micarta doesn't seem to be a thing. The "orange" TeroTuff looks kind of creamsicle to me. The context is for a (maybe more) rigging knife. Looks like I'd be ordering a sheet since I can't get just a single set of scale blanks from anywhere that I also need other stuff.

Whaddaya think?

Found a new (to me) supplier with both Richlite and TeroTuff in colors (and sizes) I can work with, so we'll see. Still interested if you've got opinions!

No orange terotuff, but I do have a few knives with terrotuff scales and I like it a lot. Feels quite a bit like micarta ... maybe a bit grippier/warmer feel. I'd like to see some orange terotuff actually
