The New Snark

I won't claim being a coffee snob. However I know what I like and don't like and know how to make several different types.

My son Jared turns 10 years old today,...... Hard to believe. Didnt know what I was going to get him, just 3 days ago, guess what he tells me, he says "Dad, for my Birthday, I want you to teach me how to use your tools and you and I make a minibike". The day after that I found a 5 hp briggs and stratton a metal supplier of mine had that runs perfect for $50. Bucks. Thats fate says you. Well it gets better. Years ago before the kids where born, I used to fool with motorcycles and old cars, I handmade a few cool minibikes too. Still had a old frame, front end I made. Got them out of the attic and Jared and I started piecing things together to get some ideas and a game plan together. granted, I told him it would probably be a winter project, but hopefully we can have him zooming around the neighborhood next summer. This one got a disk brake from a mountain bike on it. Probably gonna strech the frame and the backbone about 9in. But I think this will be a cool father son project for us, and it will all be handmade.

That's awesome Todd!

I used to have a few mini bikes, dirtbikes, and atv's (not all at the same time.) A few of my neighbors loved calling the cops on me for riding around the neighborhood.

That is so freaking cool Todd! That's a great project. It is also very cool that he wants to learn to use tools. I remember when I was younger my dad and I did everything together around the house and workwise. I didn't know it but he was teaching me every step of the way. I still retain those skills he taught me from since I was a little and to this day if I ever hit a road block on a project or whatever he is the first person I call to talk it out.

That is really cool, Todd. I had to beg my 13 year old daughter to come out and let me teach her how to use a jigsaw last weekend. I have two girls and their interest in tools mainly stays with scissors and sewing machines right now. So....I'm trying to devise ways to get them to help me and learn some basic hand tool/small power tool skills at the same time.

Looks like your son is a chip off the old block!

Dude, if they like sewing let them stitch up your sheaths for you! Do I have to teach you everything?! :p :D !!!!

The Kid works just fine, and are you sure you claimed that name? You must have been a real smrt baby! :p

I stand by my statement! My parent's were actually planning on naming me Joshua, but when I was born they said I just didn't look like a Joshua so named me Jared.

Todd that mini bike is awesome!

My brother inlaw does the same thing with my son. He is a "grand master" mechanic and builds projects for my kids all the time. The most recent one is a dune buggy that is almost completed.

I'm no coffee snob as well, but I work in one of the largest privately owned food distribution warehouses in North America. The 4th floor is our beverage department. At any given time they have about 12 different kinds of coffee brewing. Sometimes its fun to try out different kinds.

Finished doing baseboards in our bathroom this afternoon. Scored some points with the wife.

Need to sell one more of my old crappy Chinese folders and I'll have enough for some new American steel.

That's cool Todd.

Just got back from the Kampsville/Alton run. Pretty much all driving, except for stopping to eat. Lazy day.

Godfrey is an unbelievably beautiful area for being where it is. I'm not sure if THAT was the area you were in but I know it's up there. Right by the river is beautiful!

Yeah, Godfrey is connected to Alton. We just stopped at Arby's in Godfrey to eat. Went to a few antique malls, about it.

I haven't been up to Alton in a while for real. Last couple times that I have it was for work so it was in and out with no time for fun. :( Although it's Alton so it isn't really like there is TOO much there fun to do.

Yeah, not really. Fast Eddies is good, and if you like to gamble there's something to do. About it, except it is a beautiful drive from Alton to Grafton on 100.

I'm an idiot! Grafton is the pretty area not Godfrey... Godfrey is good but for another reason... A female that lives there. Yeah Fast Eddies is pretty much the only non-work reason for me to go to Alton which at this point it's probably closer for you to go to Alton than I so I don't make it too often.

Alton is about 65-70 miles from me. I love Grafton. Beautiful place. It's where the Illinois runs into the Mississippi at. We stopped in there to look at a thrift shop. Same place I found my $4 Vic Camper at. Didn't find anything. Then we went to the fudge place next door to it, and the wife got some homemade fudge.
