The New Snark

caps lock is tantamount to shouting. I personally don't care for it. I also hate having to hit a 3 button combination to italicize so I cheat and use the typographer's indicator of / on either side of the word, along with _ for bold.

It's hard on the eyes, just like the infamous Wall of Text with no capitalization or spaces or paragraphs. But mostly it's just perceived as rude and overbearing. Like dudes with 5 or 6 things in their signature...

:D

Just teasin'... it could be a lot worse than the sig-lines we use here. On another forum, roughly every other nitwit insists on having HUGE annoying flashing .gifs in their sig - sometimes several. Makes it a giant pain in the neck to read through a thread. Sometimes there's only 4 or 5 responses to a page because half of it is the same horrible .gifs over and over  :thumbdn: (Or at least it was like that still a few months ago... I don't really know if it still is, because I can't stand wading through all that nonsense.)

Another thing that has always bugged me is when people quote an entire post with 5 giant pics, just to say "cool pics dude". We get it. We just scrolled through them, too ;)

Cool thoughts dude.

:)

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

I think it's from people that spend too much time online and treat it like a real language.
Despite being online, it is still a real language... at least some of it is (not the txt-spk or whatever the kids nowadays call it).

Slightly off-topic... There's a very well-known and talented maker whom I respect a great deal, but his posts make me shudder every time I see his name come up. I struggle through them because he really does know what he's talking about, but good gravy the guy can barely spell "cat", much less string a coherent sentence together. Now that may very well be due to something like dyslexia, and I'm not making fun of that by any means. But... yikes.

I don't know where the convention of considering all caps to be shouting came from, but I do know writing in all caps is harder to read. It certainly can be done, but it's not as easy.

Ok i guess it makes sense... a little anyways... I dont have a harder time reading caps, but it does make it hard for me to read when people dont use paragraphs.... And maybe some people have no problems reading 20 lines all typed together with no spaces but have a harder time reading with caps lock. I can live with that.

I suck at proper grammar, I use more periods to make a point than maxi pad :D And to me the more exclamation points i use the more I mean it HAHAHA And that prolly annoys some folks just like caps lock or not using paragraphs. But i try to NOT purposely annoy anyone.

Thanks for explaining fellas!!!!

Pfft, that's child's play! I was thinking more like this...

I believe he's right! These two shots were taken as fast as the Nikon could burst fire, yeah, she's fast.

Which of course is extra annoying because it's not even relevant to the current thread.... snark.

The extra small "snark" made me laugh.

Also, that's a fine looking knife.

Oh wait, I guess I was supposed to quote that whole thread so the pics showed up again. My bad. ;)

You would have to quote it from the original thread. But someone with a slow connection might shoot you LMAO i remember when i was using a phone to search the forums for a week or so when my last computer broke, And i use to hate when everyone quoted the same pictures over and over. So now when i see someone else has already quoted the picture, if i still have a comment, i try and remember to quote the post but delete the image from it so only their words are quoted.

But that is a fine knife indeed.

Thank you :)

You can't quote a quote of a quote, unless you really try and do it on purpose just to be a pain. Which is good, because otherwise we'd end up in some weird feedback loop and crash the entire interwebz :p

I value all your comments, and will get back to you when I can afford to destroy prototypes.

I'm glad you posted that actually, I meant to check it out earlier.

Got a *lot* of material to go through here, probably take me a few sittings to get it all posted, so I'll up it in doses.

I'll Intersperse my review text with the pics so as to attempt some sort of pictographic balance, but I work slow, so please be patient :P

All you really have to do is multi-quote both posts, and then move the end quote till it's in sequence with the other one... I felt these pictures needed to be posted cause it's a sexy li'l beast.

You really should check it out, Pointy did the beginnings of a really good review... I'm trying to figure out what he's making. First thought was stir fry.

If i wanted to re quote the pictures i would click on the little double arrow next to pointys name which would take me to the original post, and then i would hit reply with quote on THAT page, and then copy everything in the text box and come back to this thread and hit paste where i want it.

Excellent choice by picking Pointy to a kitchen knife review. The dude's a wordsmith for sure and definitely at home in the kitchen. Looks like the blade was done right!

I conscripted him to do it at the Gathering... so it's kinda-sorta Beckerhead-related :D

Kitchen blades are fun to grind

Seems like every time I order a double quarter pounder at mcdonalds they only give me a single. Probably for the best I suppose, I shouldn't be eating there in the first place.

I don't have McDonald's very often anymore, but if I do, that's what i generally get. They are so darn tasty. The monster burger at Hardee's is pretty darn good too.

Only reason I went to McD's was because it's the only place in town open 24 hours and it was about 2:00am at the time. Well, the only fast food place anyway. There's a good short-order Mexican place that's 24 hours and a Denny's but I only had to grab something from the store really quick and didn't feel like being out very long so I hit the drive through on the way back.

And then my Xbox 360 locked up right in the middle of a level of Hitman: Absolution. My life is so hard! *sarcasm*

I've pretty much stopped posting over at USN. The signatures over there are beyond ridiculous, with guys listing their membership in every fan group they can muster, often with graphics for each one. A single post takes up a full page, and many if not most "communicate" in abbreviated fashion. More often than not, you'll scroll through two pages of material just to get "Yo men, wassup?" and "Sick knife". Just not my style.
