The NEXT SALE

I only briefly owned a blade in 3v (by another maker). I've never tried D3v so don't know if it's different to sharpen.

Hi Oyster. It seems to me that the low temp protocol 3V (like D3V) are easier to sharpen that the higher temp, more industry standard 3V blades. If you successfully sharpened some 3V in the past, I don't think you'll have trouble with D3V. I'm just using a Norton 3 stone IM313 with Medium Crystolon-->India-->Hard Black Arkansas and then moving to a strop bat with black-->green-->pink-->bare leather. Not necessarily using all those steps, just sharpening as necessary for each blade.

Thanks for the advice!
You guys are all in a different league from me...
I definitely need to up my sharpening game!
I generally just use the DMT system - those will cut anything - and occasionally a strop with some compound.
Yes, my brief experience with 3V was with a more standard production blade. The steel wasn't the problem, I didn't like the knife and it moved on.
I suppose it depends on what is being cut (e.g. wood vs hides) and a host of other variables (HT being a big one) but I was under the (it seems mistaken) impression that 3V is generally not only more abrasion resistant but also has better edge retention than D2.
Always learning... :)

In case some may have missed it, Nathan's signature in the OP of this thread has been revised to reflect: upcoming sale on Friday August 25th for the D2 prototype HDFK (aka NASK). The number of available units and where the sales thread would be posted have not been announced. yet.

THANK YOU! Casinostocks Casinostocks I always miss these things. Been crazy busy! That is exciting!

Can anyone proxy for me When the d2 hdfk drops? Id really love to get one but the building im working in has terrible cell service. so my chances aren't looking too good . Thanks

Casinostocks Casinostocks just proxy for all of us already, we're all too busy and slow. Just hoping for one of the top 100 replies in the first minute, practicing up for a BFHDPK (Big Freaking Heavy Duty Potato Knife) sale one day.

Why cant CPK just make lightsabers already.....you know they'll sell out in a minute or two, and I want one with maroon micarta handles.

Haha! There was a time in the not too distant past when I used to certainly fall somewhere in the top 10 but with the influx of more and more keyboard-fu types, that sorta outcome is no longer a gimme. I may still have a chance as a successful proxy bidder if there are like 20 of those!!!

Right now, I'll be vying for you two as A & B in that order unless Nathan slaps my wrists!

This is a very exciting development! Hmmmm. I should send you some WD40 to put on your keyboard and wiring. To coax a little Extra speed out of it.

Let's hope for good things!

I usually do better when I'm proxying than when I'm buying for myself. I get too much adrenaline rush when I do it for myself which actually works against things! For instance when it came to the BC, I tried to get too cute by typing some BS like "V" (for victory, LOL!) but then my hand slipped off the mouse and as they saying goes, I was then history! :D

I hope to get both you and Justin a D2 NASK

I'm all good with my own two from the preorder list and shall wait till I get to own those two. Later on if Nathan decides to do some in 4V, I'll be all over one of them too!

I cut myself accidentally frequently enough. If I had a light saber, I would be either dead, wheelchair bound, or missing 2/3 of my fingers and toes.

Yeah but with maroon micarta handles my good man...........and no need to sharpen ever........
Seriously though given a choice will D2 (this sale HDFK) or D3V (preorder HDFK) be a better choice for a camping knife little firewood prep here and there, light meal meal prep, with as little maintenance required as possible?
