The "Official" T.M. Hunt Custom Knives Random Chat Thread

That looks tasty Jerry, the wife and I was just talking today trying to figure out what where gonna do on our next date night, we thought of maybe getting a hold of you and Jess and maybe doing a Indy brewery tour. Whacha ya think?
That sounds good to us! Downtown is nice right now since it is lit up for Christmas. One catch, If you want to do it on a weekend or Friday there are only a few days we won't be traveling North or South this month. Depending on which breweries you want to visit, we are more available during the week if that works. Just bug me sometime and we'll get it figured out.

the important question is - can your metalworker punch a half moon instead of a full moon in 1/4" stock?
at some point I'll "need" an M18 to go with my M9...... ;)

Hmmm.... What about a round flat punch ground to a half-moon shape?

And yes, Vik, You're going to need an M-18. Your M-9 was a fun one to play with though. How does the larger handle affect the balance as far as throwing the M-9 goes?

Thats possible, but the punch has to match the die or you just get a nasty mess when it goes through the material. Plus, at $250. It would be hard to justify ruining a punch with no matching die. So........ might as well have them made to ones specs.

I was thinking more for stamping a half-moon shape... But I like where you're headed with this even though I think you want an excuse to play with your ironworker.

it's great - since it doesn't have the heavy bird's beak on the back, it actually releases MUCH better. ;)

Yes Jerry, stamping is what im talking about. In stamping, whatever shape you stamp, the male stamp must have a matching female die as to not distort the surrounding metal. So, my point, if I ground out a half moon out of one of my expensive punches, I would not have the necessary female die to match rendering it useless and a waste of time and money.

Ah-ha... Got it.

So I take it that "necessary female die" isn't in Murph's repertoire?

I suspect Jerry was reading Leather stamp while we were talking custom metal punch & die.

Just sent off the money for Blade to be a vendor again in 2015. Hopefully the third time will be the charm!

So, Todd,
since you're a tradin' kind of guy, any interest in an unused BK6?
If yes, what kind of trade credit would you give me towards an M-18 with Vik-sized Osage Orange scales?
:D

Bloody hell, just adding a handle and scales large enough for your hands should add at least another C note :p
