Pete Crowl (to right), winner of the "Best Hunter/Utility" award. Can't even discribe how good this hunter felt in hand and VERY clean. That's Paul Linfield in the photo with Pete. Paul's the president of the Northern Virginia Knife Collectors Association and a regular here. Really enjoyed meeting and talking with you Paul.

I've been without a computer since before the show. My son just got home and set up my new computer tonight. Nice to be back online!

I really enjoyed the show and it was great to finally meet and talk with you, Kevin, and to be able to put faces to many knifemakers I have posted with here.

The Ohio Classic Knife Show will be coming up in about three weeks (Oct 22-23).
I attended for the first time last year and was very pleasantly surprised
by the attendance of both makers and knife enthusiasts.
An outstanding assortment of custom knives, production knives, handle material and collectible Art items.

I plan to attend again this year and hope to see some of you there.

yeah im looking forward to it myself Kevin ....

Not really sure what to call this knife?
I made it for Larry Bailey for one of his "raffle" knives or "give-away" knives - just not sure what he calls them.

Maybe a "drawing" knife!

It's a W1 Integral with a flat ricasso instead of the more common rounded ones.
Spalted Maple.
See ya' in Ohio!

While I don’t want to start a fight and I’m sure you had a great time meeting and yakking with other knife dealers and makers, I feel we were at different shows.

Read the review at http://knifesearch.blogspot.com/. The writer’s reaction is similar to mine. The show was empty both Friday and Saturday. Most of the people in your photos are dealers walking around. I noticed no comment on the oil paintings for sale, the turned wooden bowls, the wire wrapped jewelry, the hand-dipped candles and the empty tables. I counted at least 5 when I walked in at 10:00 Saturday morning.

I left about 4:30 Saturday. On my way out to an empty parking lot I asked how many people had attended. The sales person didn’t know, “Ask Larry,” she said. Larry wasn’t around.

I hope the next show is better. Too many quality local knife makers skip the Blade Show. The cost is too much for many of them. It’s little shows like this that help them get the following they deserve to move to the next level. White washing an unsuccessful show doesn’t do anyone any good.

And no, I don’t make knives, I just buy ‘em.

Perhaps that's because we were at different shows. If you would have taken a few minutes to read first you would have noticed that this review, comments, photos, observations etc were on last year's Ohio Classic.
I don't white wash unsuccessful shows but call them the way I see them.

Perhaps next time if you don't want to start a fight you should read first before spewing your non-sense.

I was looking forward to attending as I had a very good time last year however a family commitment caused me to change my plans.

I did hear things were quite a bit slower than last year.

I, too, was a little disappointed at the attendance for this year's show. Nevertheless, I enjoyed renewing acquaintances with several makers and meeting several new makers. Overall, I had a great time as I have every year I have attended.

Not all makers and collectors can afford to attend the Blade Show and it's regional shows like this one that provide opportunity for those who cannot attend the Blade Show. However, shows are expensive and require large expenditures of time to produce and poor attendance is a sure killer of shows like the Ohio Classic. Larry deserves a lot of credit for taking on such an undertaking. It's a real shame that attendance was not better.

Thank you, Larry, for trying.

I hope he does another one in 2011 I would like to get a table, is it too early to ask for info on that one? The web st ite has only this years info.

Mark, this year (2010) was actually the last year that Larry Bailey will put on the Ohio Classic show.
It has new owners/promoters which will produce/manage the show in the future.
