Probably been asked before but I found nothing when trying to search it. So here it is... What is the one knife everyone should own at some point in their life?

This is not your grail knife but the knife you know was consistent and just seemed perfect. It might be the knife you still carry or it might be one you had and sold, or one you just got to hold for a short time. It can be because it was cheap and durable or expensive and perfect. Any knife goes, convince us!

Certainly a Sebenza - I could have never understood the quality and hype had I never gotten one.

SAK is a good one - did not consider that initially but indeed essential.

Otherwise I consider the Buck 110 and plain Sebenza must-haves at some point. You might not like them at all but they must be tried.

The Fallkniven F1 is also one for any person who takes a fixed blade into the outdoors.

My vote would be for a Buck 110. All the men in my family have owned multiples of that knife, and they've done just about every job you can use a knife to do.

So easy. Just like you see above...get a Sebenza...a used one from the Exchange. If you don't love it, you can sell it for about what you just paid for it. If you do love it, you have a lifetime wonderful folder.

The lowly paring knife. I have used many from depression era no names to Opinel Carbone and Victorinox stainless and of course the Green River. This is the one pattern in the world that I'd guess, gets used more than any other.

Very easy. A Mora.

And for around $15 there is no excuse not to. It can pretty much do anything one will ever need.

CRK Sebenza, in whatever size or flavor you prefer. It is the benchmark to which all other knives are measured. Plus, because they retain their value and sell quickly, there is very little risk in picking one up if you're not sure it's for you.

i guess im just repeating what everyone has already said but i agree the sebenza is a must own. also i think a griptilian is another must have.

Having looked at some pictures, i cannot fathom why i would want to own one of them.....

I own and use custom knives. I have used and carried CR Sebenza, and Hinderer. Moderns, traditionals, GEC, Queen, S&M. Cold Steel, Kershaw, Benchmade, ( expensive production fixed blade knives like Busse, Swamprat. I have used several Kosters, and owned custom Siegle, Ben Tendrick, and others.

I have not owned and used too many customs(6 or so). I don't have a bottomless collection, just some good quality core users.

I own 8 or so Opinels, and love them. They slice like no other knife I have ever used. They are light, comfortable to use, and strong. Cheap enough to buy, modify, use hard, loose and not care. Great carbon steel, and even better stainless. I just wish I had grabbed one or two in ebony while they were available!

I would say a griptilian or a paramilitary 2. I don't think a sebenza is a 'must have'. I bought one and traded it within days because it didn't compare to my z-wear eng(still sold that too).

Opinels are a must have for me, but also I think a yellow/cv case should be owned at some point. I love the soddie and the peanut, but any knife nut should try some affordable carbon steel.
