The one kuk for you, your "soulmate"

Yeah, war hammers are pretty awesome -- any recs for good makers? Also, any war hammers with synthetic handles? Last thing i want to worry about is a broken shaft, especially since I live in the desert and finding a nice, suitable hardwood replacement would be difficult during the rapture.

The Rapture is it now? Then you can have mine since I'll be with my Saviour....

I have several here and you may have your choice of anything I have once that happens.

Wow, this thread went places unexpected :)
I did learn I need a Tarwar though in case my samurai and kung fu swords are broken in the zombie melee . Can't wait to see how the chiruwa Tarwar turns out in weight and balance.

There was a monster ASTK (20" and 48 oz., I think) for sale back in February.

As soon as I saw the picture, I knew I had to have it. Unfortunately, I'm in Iraq, and I won't get to handle it 'til I get home in November.:grumpy:

May you make it home safe and sound to have you day of play with your new Khuk!

My early Sanu made YCS is my Spirit Blade.
If I had to part with all of my knife collection except one, I would choose to keep my YCS.
I feel a connection and warmth from that blade like no other. What Uncle Bill said years ago is very true. The right blade will speak to you, and find you.
I have found over the years of buying HI khuks that some speak loudly to me,others not so much.
I have a Kesar made Gelbu Special that wants to get in a fight, and a Sanu made Falcata that speaks to fighting off the hoards of attackers with glee, but the YCS wants to be there by my side through all day to day events.:o
It is hard to describe properly, but that is my attempt.

OK, last time I am going here... I have one of those things and they aren't a very good club at all, you'd be better off making one out of hardwood with one of your khuks well before the rotting dead come out of their graves than you will with one of them.

Here's the most recent one I made.

I carved it from one solid piece of OAK heart-wood, about 26.75" long with a 4" diameter ball:

And here's one made from cherry with a spike of white tailed deer antler:

questions: I know that HI uses overall measurements so how long are the handles? I want a sirupate or chitlange khukri but I want a actual blade length of 12-15 inches. Also are these khukris full tang or stick tang do they make any in the panawal style? Oh by the way what type of handle is that on the shotgun? I have a PG mossy 500 and the grip is way more vertical than yours in he pic. It almos looks like the handle from a cold steel bolo machete. How does that angle work for you in application

I think the grip on the shotgun is a Speedfeed pistol grip. You hold it more horizontally and the recoil is absorbed by your arm in it's natural position. It's supposed to reduce the feeling of recoil by a decent amount.

CubistHamster,

Who are you with in Iraq? Stay safe and get back to that lonely kukri soon!

Well this would be hard since I get my hands on one but... what I know I like

full tang
rivets in the handle
smooth wood handle
polished blade
silver not brass
medium size that would be good for light chopping but not an anvil

now, if that even comes together in one kind of Khuk I don't know. Sounds like my soul mate to me though.

14-15" BDC is what your looking for.

I have two Chitlangis made by Kami Sher (the Tiger) which are 21.5" long. The blades are about 14.5" long.

My wife has a 15.5" Chitlangi made by Kami Santosh which has a blade length of about 10.25".

Hope this gives you a rough idea of the proportions.

Yes, it is a Speedfeed and it is a fantastic PG IMO, I have one on my 870 as well. A lot easier on the body to use and a lot easier on the follow up shot. I am working on my wooden club but I have never been much of a fan of the ball variety in terms of balance.

I decided to shine ole Ganesh up, he's looking good with his brass and blade all polished up I think. He had many years worth of removed obstacles on him so I felt I would honor his memory and restore him to his former glory. I though about fixing him up completely, like filling in some of the dings on the handle and really buffing out the blade but then I felt some of these old battle wounds suited him better than a complete make over. :)
