The Otanashi Noh Ken? The bigger and better Hissatsu?

Not a fan, personally. I like the idea a lot (Japanese inspired tactical folder), but thee is far too much writing on the blade, and the whole thing looks overly mechanical (and a little mall ninja too). Glad I picked up the Boker/Burnley instead.

May be just because of the whole slim down look with the "lawks" portion exposed. The writing is a turn off, but not a deal breaker with me. Microtech is far worse at doing that.

As for the mall ninja look, maybe a bit so, but nowadays, what "tactical" knife isnt?

For quite awhile I asked CRKT for a larger folding Hissatsu...Now, after the first of the year, I'll have one*...

*Note, that this new version doesn't have the AO that the "regular" folding Hissatsu has, but knowing CRKT folders, this new one will open quite quickly, even without the spring assist.

BTW...I have a pair of the "regular" folding Hissatsu, and they are EXCELLENT folders!...(I even have one for sale here in "The Exchange".).

Can't wait and thank god it doesn't have assist - that was the one thing that really sucked on the hissatsu. What a difference in opening ease it made when I finally disabled it.

That knife is exactly my cup of tea! I have the fixed blade Hissatsu and the Hisshou and I was thinking of buying the folding Hissatsu but the sub 4" blade kept putting me off. I love big folders and I'm definitly getting this knife. It seems very close in size to the Spyderco Szabo which, I'm very pleased to say, I already have.

Gotta love them large folders. Good to see that some companies are catering to that part of the market again.

a little high at msrp$150.
but at least it's somewhat affordable...
luvin' it! so...
damn the price! on with the knife :-)

I wouldnt worry about it. The original Hissatsu folder had an MSRP of a little over a hundred when it first came out. Now they sell for around $55. That should put the new one at around $75 I would imagine.

Even with the MRSP at $150, I'm thinking that this knife is worth every penny of the $150...But I'm sure that the "street price" (internet price) will be right-around $100-$115, and an excellent bargan at that price.

I'm liking it. I'd prefer the Lawks to be more conventional but otherwise looks like a winner with a decent street price.

I have spoken with the marketing director at CRKT (Joel) a couple times about this new Otanashi Noh Ken folder. He only has a very few samples to take to Shot Show this month, and he isn't really sure just how soon beyond Shot Show that CRKT will be putting these out for sale...Sometime near the end of January...I have my name on one of 'em...

LUCKY!;)

I am digging that the knife market seems to have swung back to larger folders. 4.75in blade sounds pretty fantastic.

Dang...Here is a copy of part of an email I received from Joel at CRKT:

"I have bad news Dann, I received word today that demand has been extremely high, so high that we have actually had to push back production.

We expect to be able to bring the Otanashi noh Ken to market in late Feb. early March.

We are taking our (very limited number of) prototypes to the SHOT Show. I just made this post on Facebook -

For the weekend I am going to leave you with the new Otanashi noh Ken review from Edge Observer. Demand has been extremely high for this knife and we have actually had to push back production. To manage all expectations it looks like we will be able to bring to market in March 2013. Stay tuned...Coming Soon

I will keep you posted.

Joel"

...Dang...:(.

I wonder what else will they show for Shot Show. CRKT allways had interesting and even radical projects.

The non locking side looked great until the video flipped around to the locking side :barf: LAWKS is unnecessary in most cases as it doesn't work all that well and in this case really marrs the look of this streamlined knife.

I'd also be worried about how small the contact patch is on the blades tang; I guarantee the lockbar will shift over pretty quickly with use as my hissatsu did the same (has a very small area for lockup engagment as well).

If they ditched the LAWKS setup, increased the lockup contact area and tossed a black peelply g10 slab on the locking side this knife would be really sweet IMO and a real looker, all stealthy and pointy. And ditch all that lettering as well, way too busy and is like reading a small novel. :D;)

Luckily, LAWKS are easy to "uninstall". Also, I am glad they made it a manual LAWKS instead of that spring loaded goodness.

True, however, it'd be nice to not have to do that right outta the box. Besides what I mentioned above it is a decent looking knife and the size of it sounds good!
