The Panerai Trend - Would you Still buy it?

To the people who wear the leather strap panerai's...how does the leather hold up to everyday wear? 'Cos to me a Panerai looks best on a strap and i don't wanna be paying too much on strap changes that often.

Strap materials for Panerai range from full rubber to different kinds of animal hide. I've seen bull's stomach, too. The one I'm currently wearing is resin impregnated calf. It gets water-logged when swimming, but it dries back to normal. There are so many companies that make straps for Panerai to satify just about every want or need. If you get hooked on Panerai, be prepared to get hooked on straps, too. :D Here are two of my favorite strap companies:

TC Straps
Strapmasters

all pans i have seen had a leather band, mine does, i almost wish mine had a rubber, i dont wear mine in water, of course when my wife wears it she washes dishes with it on, and it does fine.

anyone got a pic of 1 w/a rubber band?

I went to see Transpoter 2 yesterday, and the guy wears a Panerai.

IMO, Panerai is the ultimate watch.

Jason Statham wears one in Transporter 2 coming out tomorrow (I saw it in the trailer)...

I think I said that. :D

By the way; very good movie alot of action.

Another picture of the rubber band.

I think they sell for around $150.

There are non-authorized dealers on the web who sell the genuine article for $95. :)

Thanks again Greg, but if you look at the trailer I posted(about 12 seconds in) you will see it looks more like a SS model 00090 chronograph, but there isn't one..

It could be new or just made for the movie.

It doesn't have the numbers on the case.

If I could afford a Pammy, I would do it in a heartbeat. I don't care if celebs wear them, they are a classic and just plain cool! Very utilitarian in my opinion, and the rubber straps are VERY nice.

It's such a dillema. I wanna save up and i have just about enough money for an Omega Aqua Terra with a leather strap. Currently i have a Planet Ocean which does quite well for the hardy watch but i don't really have a nice leather strap dress watch. BUT I WANT A PANERAI SO MUCH. I think if i bought one it'd have to be the manual wind version as it is cheaper. Do you think a Panerai can serve as a dressy watch as well? I'm thinking one with a nice leather strap should do alright for dressy occasions.

How much is a Panerai over there in the US? After discount. Something like a Luminor Marina Automatic with the Date. I don't trust UK prices 'cos they're just too high and there isn't any shop selling Panerai here where i live.

If I had a Panerai; I would NEVER take it off. :)

A Panerai 44mm, model 104, SS with date runs about $4300.

They come with a black crocodile strap with deployant clasp, along with a second tan calf skin replacement strap.

I would want a rubber strap.

Yep, neither one is located in the US, but the prices are about $600 below retail and the 104H price includes FedEx international priority shipping. :) No tax either. :) The seller also has a good reputation in the Panerai forums.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not actually looking to buy one right now as i still don't have the funds but the US prices more reflect the Malaysian prices of watches compared to the UK so they are more helpful than looking at UK shops. For example i got my Omega PO for about the equivalent of £1200 in Malaysia. Here the retail price at the shops are £1825. Of course you get the discount and all but i doubt i'd get it down to £1200.

$3700-3800 is an affordable price in a few months time if i get a job soon. Unfortunately the job market ain't looking too good and i've got a baby coming soon. Hahaha.

My next watch will probable be an Omega 2834.50.91 ; a black faced GMT with rubber strap.

I don't like the valve on the SMPs and I like the extra hand on the GMT.

What do you think?

Rick, if only the GMT were available in titanium (me and my titanium obsession :D ), I would have gotten one. The Omega Seamaster series dials are some of the easiest ones to read in the dark. I still miss my SMP.
