The Pathfinder Club - Members Only!

I'll join. I usually lurk and read in the Traditionals forum, but wandered over here and read this whole tread...ended up on eBay. Found a "Best Offer" listing with a couple of small blurry pictures, asked the seller for better pictures and got a handful of larger, still blurry pictures. But he accepted my lowball offer, so here I am. Don't have any real use for a fixed blade belt knife; might have to put it to work in the kitchen.

Best I can tell from researching, it should be from the first half of the 80's (like me), and should be 425M steel.

they do make great kitchen knives, probably the 2nd best use.

And...I came home and pulled out what I thought was my Buck...but it is a Case. I carried this thing with me constantly when I was a kid (yes, we actually were trusted to carry lethal weapons) as I roamed the shores of the bayou at the end of my street, went out on my boat (by myself!) and had the run of the whole place armed with my single shot .177 cal Benjamin Air Rifle and my trust knife. My brother and I used to like to travel across the bayou to NAS Pensacola, sneak up on to the end of the flight line and watch planes taking off over our heads, or the Blue Angels practicing, until we saw the Navy Shore Patrol coming careening across the field in our direction, at which point we skedaddled and were never caught even one time.

Now those were the GOOD OLD days, no?

Anyway...here is my Case. I know I'm not worthy of the noble Pathfinder club, but ... of a kindred spirit, I hope. I cared for this knife like crazy, sharpened it obsessively and oiled the leather to the point you see it here.

Welcome Archie! Glad you found us. If you like Traditionals, it doesn't get much more traditional than the 105 for a fixed blade knife. I agree with your time frame - early 80s - back when Buck sheaths were made of elephant hide. :D

Nice looking Case knife, Centuriator, and a good story to go with it. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

Cool story!

Add me in just sent for mine. Was looking for a good EDC knife and was a toss up between this and the 102. I will probably get both

Welcome, Jaxe! The 105 gets a lot of competition from that little snot nose 102. Both great knives, but remember, it's the 105 who is out "finding paths" while the "woodsman" is back at camp cleaning fish. :D Thanks for joining and feel free to post a photo of your new knife when it arrives. :)

TAH, if we get offended about someone saying something about a knife model, we are taking this way too seriously.

I think the 36 pages indicate we are taking this too seriously.

We're seriously using the word seriously too seriously. :D Thanks for the posts!

I used to carry an old case pearl folder but it slipped out of my pocket and I lost it. I switched to various belt clip folders but I don’t like them so I had this small no name skinner sheath knife I have been carrying. I don’t hunt or fish anymore but I haven’t left the house without a knife of some type in 42 years. So I wanted something I can carry all the time basically everywhere I go. Not too heavy not too big. I got it from copper clad via eBay but went to their website and now I’m seeing the 212, small 117, 105, 102, and a bunch more I want. I went with the basic aluminum fittings black handle but these wood handled brass ones look mighty attractive. Just based on pictures I see a half dozen different styles I want to buy of each handle material

Now what I’d really like is one picture with all of them lined up by size to compare them

Compliments of ItsTooEarly and the Sunday Picture Show...:)

J JAxe in you post you mention the aluminum vs brass fittings. It’s not just the looks that are different. The weight and balance are different too.

A small knife with brass pommel is handle heavy. On a larger knife the brass pommel counterbalances the weight of the blade. But makes an already heavy knife heavier.

I prefer the aluminum in most cases
