The Perfect Fiddleback

I have a spreadsheet that lists all the models with all the specs and pricing, etc. Includes my rankings and notes so I can sort on what I want to hunt for next.

It's a lot of work preparing for sharking.

Wow, clear evidence that a Ph.D. in Fiddleback sharking must exist somewhere. Outstanding Nathan! I'll have to step up my game.

I'm with willic.
When I saw the thread title, my brain answered "is the one in your hand."

Still, I'd like to try a BushFinger and a HikingBuddy to see how those handles work for me.
Friday's my birthday and the wife actually gave the go-ahead, (not sure what she was thinking...) so I'm gonna see which one calls to me this week - if I can get in quick enough.

That's the type of passion i can respect!

My birthday falls on a Monday this month, so that is not going to benefit me at all. My anniversary falls on a Friday this month, so perhaps I can ..., no forget it. That won't work.

Happy Birthday tjswarbrick! If there is anything that you want the sharks to avoid, communicating it might help a little.

I had to have a conversation with my 9 yr old son over the weekend about obsessing over video games. He and his little buddies are Minecraft addicts. The whole time I was talking to him alarm bells were going off in my head and I just replaced "Minecraft" with "knives" in the conversation with myself.

:)

Happy upcoming Birthday! Good luck in the hunt.

Anniversary would be a pretty big stretch :)

I've already looked at my birthday. It's a Saturday this year. hmm, wonder if I could make that work... :)

I think you'll like the Big Paw.

This sounds like a good first step. I envision enabling macros with a bunch of if/then statements to account for the variables, image recognition software to identify all of the variants in fotki, and then spit out my top three picks for any given Friday.

You know, we might get pretty good at this, if we only apply ourselves.

"STOP WERE LOSING HIM!" says the thurin devil in response to the thurin angel who wrote the quote above. "There is absolutely nothing in common with a love for Fiddleback knives and a pre-adolescent obsession over a video game."

Kephart is my perfect Fiddleback. It's stabby, pointy, not too big, not too small, and come on, it looks cool. It also throws great. Every time Andy offers one I have to remind myself that both my wife and I already have one. I want to try it's bigger brother the big paw Bushcrafter in CPM154.

Yeah see, this is where perfect becomes subjective. The Kephart is the perfect Bushcraft knife for me. Absolutely love the design for that. The Hiking Buddy is the perfect day hiking around sheeple knife for me, but to do all I love to do in the woods, and to tackle my love cooking... that takes a knife the size of a Woodsman. I may lean more toward the Duke once I try it though, but the shank is coming first, and the KE Bushie/Hiking Buddy duo, that I want for teaching my daughter Bushcrafting skills

I really like this thread. The Bushcrafter is one of my oldest designs. The concept is that this knife is a simple working tool. I designed it to have a stout drop point that isn't scary for parents or sheeple. I wanted to be able to carry the knife as a Boy Scout. This knife is just a good trusted friend.

The Bushfinger is more sexy. Pointier. She's my Sophia Lauren. I designed the beauty mark pin after I designed the Bushfinger as a tribute to SL. She is a good girl, and uber useful as well, but the knife begs to be held.

I carried a Bushfinger for a couple of years. Then the Kephart cought my eye. Definitely a no nonsense knife, and dead sexy. Pointier still. Then I carried the Sneaky Pete that I had judged at the Knifemakers Guild last year. Really a naughty knife. And now I'm carrying an Asp. If I go in the woods, I'm taking my SP, but this Asp gets the Oooohs and Aahhhs from the folks at the ball field, and its lighter.

I still want to get my hands on a F2. I fly through Atlanta weekly so I may have to push for a long layover.

High grind 5/32" Bushfinger is my favorite general purpose Fiddleback. It does almost everything well. These 2 other S35VN FFs are giving me some trouble deciding what to bring when going outside

I usually end up bringing the Bushfinger when only bringing one and expecting lots of water exposure (only one in kydex).

The Ladyfinger when I bring the Camp

and the Recluse when general hiking

If I could only have one Fiddleback  I'd go with a 5/32" S35VN SFT and handle like the Maroon Ladyfinger above..

Thank you for sharing this story about the Bushcrafter, Bushfinger, Kephart and Sneaky Pete. I did not know the story behind the beauty mark. This explains the mosaic pin in some examples as well as on the Recluse I just recently nabbed from mistwalker. Sophia has to be the most beautiful woman that I have ever laid eyes on, and I have only done this in 2D. If I ever saw her in person I would probably have a myocardial infarction. Going home tonight to stream Grumpier Old Men.

Grumpier Old Men is old Sophia. You gotta hit up some 60's Loren instead!

Noted, but I'm old now too. Well, not that old, but she certainly was still beautiful in Grumpier Old Men. If I look at her too young, my fantasy radar will go off and tell me that she is too young. I would be the virile younger man in GOM. OK, I'm getting weird again:).

Guys, I just accidentally stumbled on this thread. Man, it's cool! Entertaining! Just thought I'd share it (once again)...
