Has anyone found their perfect knife now, the one that they spent years searching for through trial and error, the one that has enabled them to rest easy in the confidence that their search is now over ?:D

Ian Van Reenen is making it for me as we speak. ;)

YES THERE IS. The perfect knife is one that you have on you when you need it.

The *perfect knife* is a bottomless pit that those that collect, fall into. Because no sooner do you think that you have it, that somebody comes out with one you just know is better.:D

Just hope its not a chinese SAK knockoff. I think I would rather a rusty tuna can lid myself. The above statement is within common sense as we do have a choice as to what blade we carry no matter how small, it should be of some quality.

C'mon bro, I expected better than that old chestnut from you !

You must class some of those great blades that you make as getting close to perfect eh ?;)

Yeah, I have a number of perfect knives, actually. :) Perfect for certain uses - but just a single knife that would be perfect in every way and do all tasks perfectly is, of course, impossible.

Agreed! And well said.

Fiddleback beat me to it. I've carried a Buck Big Sky for years. It has helped me build many blinds and cleaned many deer. It is lowly 420HC, but I love this knife.

I did buy a RAT-3 and to me is the perfect knife for camp, field and trail. Not too big, not too small. I don't believe in a one knife battery. Give me a SAK OHT, the RAT-3 and the 12" Ontario cutlass and I think I'd be set for anything that I'd come across.

But, I'll still carry the Big Sky to the woods next week.

I can say I'm damned close on my perfect EDC folder. I have a SOG Twitch II that I love. If someone made a Twitch II only in Titanium and maybe an S90V blade, that'd probably be my perfect EDC folder. With that folder, I would only switch it out for variety's sake.

This would be a good way of summing things up for me. I guess the next question is, what knife is perfect for the tasks you usually need a knife for in a given location?

Aside from EDC stuff in the city that a folder and SAK will do, I want my knife to be a good woods companion! This is going to mean a lot of things, from food prep to woodcraft. I think the terminology used around a 'bushcraft' knife really sums up my wants, and hence I'm hoping that the Koster Bushcraft knife will be my new 'ideal'.

Right now, my 510 is the knife to which all my others are compared. I'm expecting good things, though!!!

Still searching for the perfect fixed blade ...it has been 16 years now!

I will say that the spydie delica is the perfect edc folder.

The perfect knife is the one you are waiting to arrive at your house. It comes, and its perfect. Then you jump on BFs a week later, do a little browsing, and you'll find the next perfect knife in no time. good luck

I would have to counter that the Calypso Jr lightweight is the perfect edc folder.:D Best ergonomics known to man.

As for the perfect knife, Elen stated it perfectly. Dan Koster and Fiddleback have both made one for me. There will be more.

yup !!!

I agree with this one !!!!!!!!:D:thumbup:

Well I really like my Benchmade csk,and my spydercos. I also ordered some Fallkniven F1 blanks so we'll see.

I know my line was a cliche, bUT, its true in every sense of the line. As Elen has said, there is no CATCHALL knife that is perfectly suited for all tasks. Even infi steel won't turn a knife into such a tool.

Your knife is your personal choice. But if its not carryable then its worthless, regardless of its cost.

If carrying your Battle Mistress on trails makes you uncomfortable, and you walk off without a knife on you, then you've just realized a BIG flaw with that knife. Its back at camp.

Lets say your knife is uncomfortable on your belt, so you leave it at home. Then your truck gets stuck in a snow embankment, and you're stranded, then that knife is worthless.

I'd rather have that knock off than nothing at all. I'd try to live within its means until rescued, and I'd baby it like it was a million dollars. But it would be a HELLUVA lot better than nothing. IMHO, it would have been a bad personal choice to buy and carry this kind of knife, I'm sure we can agree to this.
