The Perils of Being a Knife Nut

While I've cut myself with various knives over the years the worst cut was from a razor (not a knife but sharp). My daughter told me she needed a glass jar for school minutes before catching the bus so I stripped the label off of the jar using a razor instead of the more time consuming method of soaking it. The inevitable happened and I cut my left index finger drawing a lot of blood but seemed to close up fast leading me to believe it was just a shallow cut, so I put a bandaid on it. About an hour later I went to martial arts practice and the bandaid held until about halfway through until I was punching a Muy Thai pad held by a woman on her first or second week at the dojo. Fortunately I didn't get blood on her but the pads were covered and there was blood spatter across the ground.

Just a lighthearted post. Has anyone else gotten sore thumbs or fingers from opening and playing with their knives? And how many of you have cut yourselves playing with your knives? Be honest lol.
No but I am building up a fearsome pair of calluses where I sit from participating in this dambed chat room . . . and maybe a third on the back of my head from The Chef glaring at me for doing same rather than all the things a sane person might be enjoying.
I'm pretty happy about it all.
Is that so wrooooooong ?

The wife and kids think I'm nuts, but super glue works great on nice clean slices, especialy the flap over ones.
I usually spit dip or chew on a cut like that before super gluing. I don't know the science behind it but the old timers have used tobacco for years to kill bacteria. They'd even spit it into the dogs water in the morning to kill off parasites and worms.

Ughh! I think I'm going to puke. I let my dog lick the cut as dog's mouths don't have any germs.

Yes ! It finally happened.
Yesterday my right thumb and into my hand felt painful, even up into my forearm a little. I was wondering . . . is this some kind of arthritis thing ?
Then last night I began to realize it was from opening this new knife. Pretty much from just using it off and on all day . . . it isn't like I open and close it for fun right.
Hahahaha . . . are you ready ? . . . it's a Boker slip joint trapper for gosh sakes.

Last night I removed the spay blade ( I do that to a lot of my Trappers for a cleaner grip surface ). While I was at it I filed the cam on the tang and touched the kick a little to get the point down into the handle a little further.

Today I used it a bunch and made a point of opening the blade with my other hand.
Pain all gone.
I have been enjoying the knife so much I didn't realize the pull must have been up around 9.
What is ten ? Is that when you try to open the knife and your entire fingernail rips off or what ?
PS: it must be five or six now. I never realized how soft the tangs were. That they were fileable with a regular metal file. I always just assumed they were at least as hard as say an allen wrench or the hardened socket head screws one uses an allen wrench on. I mean allen wrenches are plenty tough and never just snap in two . This tang was way softer than that. Easily fileable.

Even letting a dog lick you face is not particularly recommended...
hahaha I wonder if dogs sit around and say stuff like : Yeah I just licked Bob's face. And the other dog says : Dude didn't you just lick your butt ?
First dog says : Yeah . . . he didn't even know.

When i was a kid i won a knife from a fishing derby, and later that day when i was trying to cut open the plastic packaging i stabbed myself in the thumb with the other knife haha. That was one of the worse ones, since it was a stab rather than a cut.

Cut my thumb closing my pm 3 s110v. It’s really mine now. If I ever want to sell it do I have to disclose the presence of my blood on the scale?

Steve
