The Peter Harvey Traditional Knife Collection

Thanks Jack -marvellous collection- all those old names like "Shinio polish" and "Auld Scottie Menzies" "Abrfract" a bygone era.
I liked the Disney Robin Hood penknife .
Now when you say "auction" most people would imagine an auctioneer babbling at 100miles an hour with bidders raising an eyebrow or a slight nod to indicate a bid.
My Sister in Law in Devon haunts a weekly auction where you go in during the week to check out the stuff -and they have everything- mostly estate selloffs- you put in your bid on paper and they ring next Monday if you won.
Its almost like ebay without the internet.I could have gone bananas in there just on old matchbox cars alone.

Somewhere between the two in this case I believe :)

Kinda makes you wonder where they all went!
Thanks for the reprise!!

Great collection. A shame it was broken up.

Thanks for taking the time to post - you just do not see collections like that - maybe a once in a lifetime.

Jack - its been a very busy time, and missed this until now! Wow - that's a lot of work putting up all that!
There were quite a few that took my eye - just fantastic - thanks so much for this.

Richards souvenir knives ,they brought back some memories. Wonder how many I owned, usually briefly before being lost !

With my terrible internet connection, it took absolutely ages Duncan. Well worth the effort though, thanks for the words of appreciation folks :)

One of my earliest memories is standing at the rear doors of the Richards factory waiting for my dad and uncle to finish work.

I seem to remember every holiday I brought back one of those Richards knives, wish I had one now ,will have to look out for one in the "antiques " centre's.

Thank you, very, very, very much for this wonderful thread. I think for me it will take "years" to follow all this pictures and the text in detail.

Jack, thanks for all your work. Looking through the photos I found a few similar to a small collection I was able to acquire in an old shop of antiques. I ask the guy if he had any pocket knives and he handed me a bag and a looking glass and let me cull. While everybody else in our group shopped the store's goods I was in heaven picking through the bag. Found some turned metal pen knives and a couple of ruler knives, Still have those, great memory, thanks for triggering that event.

They were everywhere weren't they? Scour your local flea-market or car-boot sale and you shoulde be able to find one or two

Fantastic Charles, sounds like a dream come true :)

Here are some photos I just took of the little group I found on that trip. The ruler knives are both Ibberson and one the pen knives is near mint. Jack reading your stories about you quest, I would guess that I was pretty lucky to find these in especially in this condition.

Superb Charles. Yes, I think you were extremely lucky :)

He sure collected a lot of junk, souvenir, shell bolster knives. Looks like the average flea market antique dealer's box of over priced rust.

There were some in the category of the counter display card type of knives - but there were also A LOT of very good knives in that collection as well - ones I would dearly love to get my hands on!
A little harsh that comment, I am sure the high end collectors could say that about my collection but have the manners not to ;)
