The Postal Service

I agree, our postal service amazes me at their quickness. I gave some love back to our mail carrier. I replaced the crusty leaning mail box with dented non closable lid for a nice new large one. I got some nice metal letters for the post. I googled the correct SOP for mailbox placement and height. I saw that it should be be between 42" to 48" from mailbox bottom to ground. I was tickled because I am tall and hate bending over. I looked down the street and see everyone with 36" or sometimes lower height. I can bet the postal deliverers have back problems. She said she thinks my mail box is the perfect height! I am glad that I could show my appreciation in a practical way.

I prefer USPS simply because I prefer to receive a knife at the mailbox instead of having it left on my porch. The tracking available with UPS is vastly superior, though. I just ordered an sweet Casio G-Shock and can use UPS tracking to watch it travel towards me. USPS could learn a lesson there.

Trivia: the lowest seniority UPS pilots are paid $180,000 per year.

USPS does not offer tracking on any mail other than Express Mail. They only offer Delivery Confirmation (or Signature Confirmation). Delivery Confirmation was designed for commercial mailers who have no need to track their packages but who have a need to know that a package was delivered (unlike we consumers who like to monitor the package along the way :) ). No fair comparison can be made between a tracking system and one designed only to verify delivery.
