The Problem with Flippers: Thumb Hot Spots

Farmer Jill, you are funny. For everyone else, here are a few points:
  • First, sorry about confusing everyone about the 0562CF. Like I said later, I meant to write 0452CF. If ZT had a better naming convention, it would be a bit easier. No one writes "Delica" instead of "Manix," after all. So, it's the 0452CF that was uncomfortable.
  • Again, it's not that it causes pain. It's that it's uncomfortable. There's no "ouch." It's more like, "Seriously?"
  • Yes, I do love backlocks. The non-open-flow design is great for me, so I really like my Manix 2 back lock even though it's a bit chunky (cue some rap song about liking them thick), and I like my fixed blades (my ESEE 5 and my ESEE Izula).
  • And yeah, I'm picky about ergonomics. I first tried the Manix 2 with the ball bearing lock and hated it. I had to bear down hard on the lock to get it open, and not only was that a nuisance, but in doing so, the clip dug into my fingers. The back lock version is much, much better for me.
  • Someone mentioned how he didn't understand how opening the flipper hurt. It doesn't; that's not the issue.
  • I ordered the 0562CF and will see how that goes.

I was thinking maybe the inside top edge of the Ti and CF were sharp. I have the same knife and on mine it is chamfered ever so slightly and would assume the same on all 454CF.
If I press the very tip of my thumb and press as hard as possible there is discomfort but basically none on the pad of my thumb.
Sorry it's being such a pain (ha-ha).
Cheers

Never a problem. I have had flippers of all shapes and sizes and never had a problem like that.

...It does, indeed, have something to do with flippers ... It's not exclusive to flippers, but flippers make it impossible to not have this problem, since you must have that open space in the back in order for the knife to flip...

On the contrary, Kershaw 1740 & 1745 NRG models  Also the OD1 & OD2. I happen to have this 1745BLK for sale if interested.

Hey guys. I got my 0562CF the other day, and indeed it does the fit the hand well, so I understand why everyone was scratching their heads. (I meant to type "0452CF," which is definitely too big for my thumb to rest comfortably on the jimping.)

Maybe something with an integral scale or a front flipper? Jimping of a front flipper should be in between the scales.
