I really like the RAT knives I purchased in April. I bought a couple of Izulas. At purchased the knife and sheath alone, not the complete set. After placing my order I was interested in finding out how to wrap the handles. These were the first knives I had purchased that weren't a folder, so I really had no idea on where to start. It was nice to find instruction on the manufacture website about how to wrap the handle. As a bonus I saw that there was a contest. I entered and hoped for the best. In May I entered again, and found out in June that the contest had cancelled and all further contests would be held here. I came over from the RAT Cutlery website, opened a acct. and entered here. Now it seems I am suppose to contribute to these forums to enter. Lucky for me I like to read as there were no contests for this month listed, I had to look through a couple of topics to find out what was what.

I can appreciate the difficulty in running a contest every month. It seems more trouble than I myself would want to go through. I also appreciate the fact that no one can demand you hold a monthly contest. Thank you taking on the challenge of holding a monthly contest. In the first post of this topic, it was stated that you do not need to own a rat knife, though it would make you cooler. By the rule 25 posts or more, it seems obvious that your are more interested in forum members than you are in customers. While I enjoy both these and the other threads on these boards, I doubt I will be able to be member of the Rat Pack, as I tend more often than not to avoid posting anything (primarily due to length of my post's and poor communication skills). I enjoyed entering the contest's while I could, and I enjoy the knives I have purchased. However I wont be purchasing any more knives, as it seems supporting the company who links to these forums matters less than supporting the forums themselves.

Sorry to hear you do not want to put forth a little effort in helping a great company, The Contest is just that A contest, nothing more nothing less and it is design to draw out people who lurk and have them contribute and reward those who do. Glad to hear you enjoy the RAT Cutlery blades you purchased and all contest are Stickied which keeps them at the top of page 1, not hard to find. Come in and join our virtual campsite and have fun...
THe July Contest is about to kick off.... Watch for it !!! :D(top of page)

I added you my friend, we very much appeciate you doing a giveaway, thank you for your generosity.

Thank you shotgunner!

Hi Kusanagi,
welcome to the forums. I think you might have missed the point a bit and just wanted to add that most of the RAT subforum members ARE RAT customers, and the owners of RAT Cutlery are of the mindset that they want to engage with their loyal customers. Likely we here on this subforum are some of their most loyal customers. They appreciate getting the direct feedback and engaging in like-minded conversation, and building friendships within the group.

By saying that you don't have to be a RAT owner, they're obviously not trying to segregate knife owners and tell people that you aren't welcome if you don't buy their product. As long as you share similar interests, ethics, morals, I don't think they care if you own one of their awesome blades. How may manufacturers can you think of that will welcome you with open arms, or even give you the time of day, and quite often promote competing manufacturer's products instead of their own.

My point is, RAT Cutlery sees what they manufacture for what it is, a tool. They're more interested in the people that use them than the tool itself. They're one of the few companies I can think of off the top of my head that still put the people before the product and profit margin. When a company with a good solid product does that, it's safe to say that the profit margin will naturally come along. Build a good product, take care of your existing and potential customers, and you'll build a lifelong loyal customer base. That's the way more business should run.

Al least that's my take on how they think but who knows?

Anyhow, hope you stick around, you just might make a few friends here!

Cheers!

This is a group of like-minded knife lovers, who actually use the tools as intended (not Safe-Queens). :)

Another tat wont be a problem at all. Please just don't give me number 666!

So sign me up too!

Thanks to Jeff and Mike, and Tony and Gunner!

Too much waiting to get up to the number I wanted, so consider this my request - I believe I've got over the required 25 posts by now.

I am not sure how many posts I have in this forum but would like to join. I am hoping to have my first RAT soon and do enjoy the forum.

If I don't have enough I understand and will keep going until I do:D

Got to have at least 25 post in RAT Forum :D

Respectfully requesting my Official RAT Pack number. I have hit the required 25.

Thanks

I have to admit, I was disgruntled too, coming back after two weeks of backpacking through Scotland to find out the rules on the monthly contest have rather drasticly changed (again, I might add...). But I took a step back and chewed on it a bit and found that one fact that I can't get around: apart from the products I like the dedication to customer service, made abundantly clear by their warranty statement AND their actions on these very matters of the RC people together with their retailers. I feel it's a bit of an attitude thing.
Also, no matter how inappropiate (or just plain dumb) my questions or remarks might have been, the people that frequent these forums (actually, I find this is a pretty common thing on other forums too) have always treated me kind, with patience and understanding. So, even though I'm not entitled to Rat Pack status right now, I might be one day and I'll proudly apply for it then. In the meantime, I'll continue to be my ignorant noob self. And buy RC knives. And I don't like the RP one anyway :barf: :D ;).

Thanks,

D-R

(P.S.: sorry for the length on this one. And for the P.S. making it even longer :))

I'm very sorry to hear that some folks feel left out by this little experiment we have going here.

We tend to look at RAT cutlery as a bit more than just a knife manufacturer, but as a bit of a think tank and a group of like minded individuals. One of the most valuable assets that Jeff and Mike have is a loyal following that are excited and willing to give their input and criticism of new blades and upcoming designs.

There's no place that provides a better outlet for that than Bladeforums and thats one of the reasons that Jeff asked Tony and myself to oversee the running of the contests over here instead of on the website.

These contests are a way of rewarding those that take part in this little experiment and help to improve and evolve the brand.

Anyone is more than welcome to become a RAT pack member, we just ask that you do your part to support RAT with their time and input.

Personally, I'm more than excited about this little thing that we have going on and I'm excited about how it's getting people excited and involved. Not a ton of companies who are actively seeking input from their customer base in this way.

I hope you'll reconsider and spend a little time here with us.

Your more than welcome and your input is welcome and wanted.

I have to agree with some of what was posted above. I never really liked having a certain post count to gain "respect". I've been around forums long enough to know that a post count mean really nothing. I just spent a day and contributed enough posts for rat pack status, but I can understand for those who have some thing better to do all day than to just post on a forum.

Either way, the products are great! Can't wait for the special RP knife to come out!

The post count thing really has nothing to do with earning respect, I really try to treat everyone with the same respect as if I were to be talking to them face to face.

It was an attempt to weed out the folks who only show up when there's a giveaway or contest. Jeff loves giving out knives but we wanted to ensure that the people who were getting them were the ones who contribute to this fine forum.

I honestly don't think that 25 posts is much to ask.

I agree with both sides, I mean look at how many "just trying to get my posts in" posts there are since it was started. At the same time yeah getting it the contest should be earned somehow. Frankly I think anyone wanting in the contest just pitches in a dollar-pretty much pays for the contest. (or at least the prize)

I would be honored to have a number issued to me. Im fairly new, but have the required posts.

:o Sorry to add on to the growing list of suggestions, but can we a few months down the road can we have a give-away for a T-shirt, (or better yet I will probably check to see if I can order online), or something without a blade.

my apologies, I misunderstood the requirements. I spend tons of my spare time on this forum, but mostly trying to learn about the knives, and not really posting. I respectfully withdraw my request for a #.
