Over at the Spyderco.com Forum we've had a thread going over there for most of the summer and early fall. The thread was to hopefully get Spyderco to consider bringing back their older, Classic model C-60 Massad Ayoob which was first released back in 2002.

Well the good news has come forth that they have decided to do a Sprint Run of the C-60 in SE & PE. You guys might want to go over to that forum and check out that thread. And for those of you who have wanted one of those C-60 models for years>> well it appears that we've got a Green Light on the fully serrated version and the plain edged version both.

This brings joy to my soul because the C-60 has for years been one of my all time favorites. We had a short Sprint Run with a G-10 handle back in 2011 but it was only available in PE. But it appears like they are going to do this upcoming Sprint Run in SE & PE both.

Spyderco is such an exciting company, I can’t think of any other Knife manufacturer that’s more in tune with their customers :)

Awesome news! I have a well used and carried aluminum handled SE model that I love. I have a PE G-10 handled model that is NIB. I'd love a SE blade and G-10 handled model. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the info but I've got an original and don't need/want another.

FWIW, there already was a Sprint Run of the C-60 before. Anyone know when this Sprint Run was issued?

And, for those who are as excited about this new Sprint Run as the OP, you can find the discussion in the Spyderco Forum here:

Personally, the only things that would get me excited are a Sprint Run of the Slyz Bowie (or the release of the SB2) and a Sprint Run (or re-release) of the SzaboFly and/or SmallFly (don't like the SF2).

Good job JD, I’m excited for this one. I’ve been following the thread over there.

I'd love a chance to pick up a C-60 Ayoob. Not sure whether I'd go PE or SE, but both sound appealing.

You would not regret getting both of them. It's one of the very few Spyderco folders I've owned and used where I like the serrated version just as much as I like the Spyderedged version. The ergonomic design of the C-60 Ayoob does an incredible job of adapting to just about any cutting job you might be faced with.

I've talked to a few people that don't really like serrated blades but at the same time they do like this particular model in SE. I haven't heard that said about too many of Spyderco's models. Maybe the Carribbean and the C-36 Military are probably the only other two models I've heard that type of praise for.

I’ve seen bits and pieces of the thread. It’s a nice effort you put in JD!

I like the model and would welcome the opportunity to try one. A fully serrated edge is highly appealing, especially in a SD oriented model.

But the VG10 decision is a little baffling to me. Disappointing at least. Since I didn’t follow the whole development, was that a country of manufacture decision? The only steel more blah to me is AEB-L.

Oh I hear you loud and clear. And in a perfect world I would have much rather had a new C-60 in one of the newer/better blade steels. But if it takes doing one more C-60 model in VG-10 just to give it another try for the main market then I'm not going to let that stop me.

Actually VG-10 is one of my favorite steels for SE blades. And it's not too bad in PE by comparison. But I'm with you because I would have much rather seen it in something like XHP or even that K390 that everyone seems to love. But one step at a time. If this Sprint Run goes over big maybe we can talk them into doing one in an upper tier blade steel.

VG-10 is perfectly fine for me if we are going stainless. I've beaten the heck out of many a VG-10 blade and have no complaints. It holds an edge well and is easy to sharpen.
With this knife, it's all about the design for me. Very unique, very useful.

Oh yeah, JD Spydo, thanks for pushing so hard for this Sprint Run. Much appreciated!

And I want to sincerely thank all of you guys for your support. Because this Spyderco C-60 Massad Ayoob model I've believed for years was just outright overlooked and most certainly under-appreciated.

I truly believe at the time of it's initial release back in 2002 that it was way ahead of it's time. Even when they did the one previous Sprint Run in 2011 I still don't think anyone at the time really took this knife seriously. And for sure not many people realized at how ergonomic this design was for it's time. But now that there have been a few people in the community over the years that have used one and now realize just how useful this great design is.

I'm hoping this upcoming Sprint Run will get some well deserved attention. Because you can't appreciate this knife until you actually do some work with it. Then you realize what you've got. It's always been one of my all time favorite Spyderco knives>> and only Spyderco would have had the spunk and courage to buck the trend and release such a unique knife like this that is in some ways still ahead of it's time. Again I can't thank all you guys enough here at BF and at Spyderco.com.

Massad Ayoob is a use of deadly force instructor so I would think corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening(out in the field) would be the most important need. Blood is corrosive, VG 10 is the right steel, please save the super steels for other knives.
Also hoping using VG 10 the price will be easier on my wallet.

For those who may not know, Mas was recently made the president of the Second Amendment Foundation. A better choice would be hard to come by. I hope some of our community will consider becoming members if they aren't already.

MASSAD AYOOB NAMED PRESIDENT OF SECOND AMENDMENT FOUNDATION
BELLEVUE, WA – Internationally-known firearms author and trainer Massad Ayoob has been named president of the Second Amendment Foundation, succeeding the late Joseph Tartaro.

“The election to president of SAF is one of the most cherished honors of my life,” Ayoob said. “I have been proud to serve for many years on SAF’s Board of Trustees and will do my best to continue my commitment to what I consider a civil right and indeed, a human right.

“I am humbled at the thought of replacing my long-time friend and mentor Joe Tartaro,” he continued, “and frankly doubt that anyone, myself included, can truly fill his shoes. I accepted the position only after being assured that it would be an interim appointment, and one of my primary goals is to find a dedicated 2A warrior with a longer life expectancy than my own to eventually serve in this position. In the meantime, I will support the goals of SAF, particularly to further strengthen our ties with the law enforcement community and to enhance the organization’s policy of embracing diversity in the community of the ‘gun culture.’”

Ayoob brings a lifetime of experience to the position. He served 19 years as chair of the Firearms Committee of the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, and several years as a member of the Advisory Board of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association. In addition to teaching for those groups, he has also taught for the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and the International Homicide Investigators seminars.

The winner of the Outstanding American Handgunner of the Year Award in 1998, Mas has won several state and regional handgun shooting championships. He was the first person to earn the title of Five Gun Master in the International Defensive Pistol Association. He has been handgun editor of GUNS magazine and law enforcement columnist for AMERICAN HANDGUNNER since the 1970s, and has published thousands of articles in gun magazines, martial arts publications, and law enforcement journals. He is the author of some twenty books on firearms, self-defense, and related topics, including “In the Gravest Extreme” and “Deadly Force,” widely considered to be authoritative texts on the topic of the use of lethal force.

He has received judicial recognition as an expert witness for the courts in weapons and shooting cases since 1979, and served as a fully sworn and empowered, part time police officer for 43 years, mostly at supervisor rank. Ayoob founded the Lethal Force Institute in 1981 and served as its director until 2009, and now trains through the Massad Ayoob Group.

He has appeared on CLE-TV delivering continuing legal education for attorneys, through the American Law Institute and American Bar Association, and has been retained to train attorneys to handle deadly force cases through the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. Ayoob served for two years as co-vice chair of the Forensic Evidence Committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also appeared in each episode of Personal Defense TV (Sportsman’s Channel).

“We are both proud and delighted that Mas Ayoob has assumed the SAF presidency,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with him over the years as a SAF trustee, and look forward to working with him more closely in his new role. Without a doubt, Mas Ayoob is true defender of the Second Amendment, and his devotion to protecting and advancing the right to keep and bear arms will be critical as we face new challenges.”

Hey thanks for that most interesting piece of information "Blues". Also just to let you guys know that I've got a POLL up over at Spyderco.com forum for those of you interested to vote on which edge type you might want if you plan to get one of these Sprint Run C-60 Ayoob models coming soon. It's in the General Discussion section. I know that there are quite a few of you here that are members of both of these Forums as I have been for some time now.

And I also want to thank all you guys for all the great information you all have shared on this thread. I hope you all are looking forward to the release of this newer C-60 Ayoob model coming soon.

Now you can also let it be known which edge type you would prefer right here on this thread if you like as well. I'm sure that Sal will be watching all of these threads on the C-60 as the Spyderco Company is gathering all the information they can get.

Is this going to be a BQ exclusive, have a plain edge original but have wanted a SE for the last 8 to 10 years now.
