The redundancy of a deep carry pocket clip

Aside from making the knife itself less visible, you could still see the clip, so what benifit is there to gain from this, aside from personal preference?

Any clip on a knife:

1. A clip keeps you from having a sheath on your belt and the problems a sheath can cause.
2. Keeps your knife away from your keys. So, you can use your knife and not have to worry about key security issues.
3. Your keys don't trash your expensive knife.
4. Allows easier access to your knife with less steps to deploy compared to a knife/sheath combination.

A deep carry clip offers all of the above with an added possibility of better retention/security of the knife itself. Plus, you have a better chance of less social problems when compared to knife carry with a normal clip.

Did I cover everything?

As for deep carry pocket clips? I like a little purchase on my knife when deploying it. Pinching knife & clip at the same time tightens the "grip of tha clip" & I get "premature" pocket wear.

My experience with loop-over clips has been very positive. The loop-over point tends to be the top of a ramp for the clip. When that point is right at the top of the knife or just above it, it provides excellent purchase without pushing too hard on the bottom of the clip where it meets the pants.

Why wouldn't they?

Because who carries a pen in the front pocket of their pants, especially jeans? I'm sure some do, but in my experience it would be extremely rare. It's just asking for a busted pen and stained pants. Pens are always clipped to my neck line or shirt pockets. Ive never seen someone pull one from a front pocket.

Shoot, I just changed how I deploy from my pocket so now it doesn't matter what clip is installed. Had to change it up due to having a collection w/ some deep carry, some not so deep & others not deep at all. Thumb inside pocket, index finger on tip of clip & pull.

I actually do keep a pen, a sharpie marker and a pen light in my right front pocket and an assisted flipper in my watch pocket of my jeans when at work. Unusual? Yes but it works the best for me when I’m in all kinds of positions doing my work. (Journeyman tool and die)

I did today working in the shop. Quite handy when needing to constantly make marks where things need to be cut. It even has a deep carry clip :)

I carry a pen in my trousers and no I'm not happy to see you.

I don't do it all the time. Depends upon my task for the day and how I am dressed. It's not a problem. Sometimes I carry one in my pants and another in my shirt. You would be amazed how many patients walk off with pens.

Just use a quality pen with a rotating barrel and you should be fine. Stay away from "click" style pens. Half the issue with ruined clothing is that most people don't use a quality writing instrument. The other half is operator error. And, shirt pocket carry is just asking for a ruined dress shirt unless you carry quality gear. Clipping a pen to your turtle neck or T-shirt is not really practical and can be uncomfortable to boot. Plus it looks strange. I guess I could wear a lab coat but that has it's own set of problems.

My wife carries a pen in her pants for security reasons. She works with combative patients and there is less chance of it being grabbed and used as a weapon.

The picture I posted was simply to show a deep carry clip in a pair of pants. I never carry deep carry clips when I wear jeans. If I'm in the office, I wear khakis or suit pants. Since the pockets are bigger, I usually carry a pen in the front pockets.

Well I guess people do carry pens in their front pocket. Can't say I've ever seen it, or would think to do it, but I stand corrected.
