Just glad the recovery is better now since ill
Probably have to have one done. I took care of a family relative 26 years ago and it was terrible. She couldn’t move for 6 weeks and very painful. Took about 6 months before she could even walk straight again.

The advancements have far surpassed that of the past thank goodness.

Mine was a “Mako Robotic surgery”. The surgery was scheduled only 75 minutes. I checked in at like 6:40am and was released out the door at 12:20pm that same day. It’s an outpatient procedure.

Directly after the surgery they woke me up and had me moving my leg some. After that they stood me up and had me walking around on the walker.

At 15 days I got a cane and am able to use it carefully, but adjusting since the walker is stable and consistent, but bulky and wide lol. I only took pain pills for like 3 days and the rest has been just Inuprofen/Tylenol.

The thing I would recommend is go to a
Specialist who specializing in it of course, instead of someone who is a jack of all trades (that’s who I saw first). My Dr. that’s all he does is hip replacements. Does multiples a day.

One part is I honestly waited probably 2 years (at least) too long. That was at the recommendation of the first Orthopedist I saw. He was a jack of all trades so to say and didn’t specialize in just hips.

His recommendation was for me to put it off as long as I could since hips only last 10-15 years and that way I could reduce the number of hip replacements I’d have to have.

At the recommendation of a friend, he said to go to a specialist who specializes in just hips. I got a referral from my general Dr of all people to an Orthopedist specialist. The first thing out of the specialists mouth was “why did you wait so long”??? He then told me these new hips are lasting 30+ years and no reason to wait.

I found out at 46 years old that I needed a hip replacement. That was after a few years of my leg hurting and progressing before I went in to ask why it hurts so bad.

I finally got it done at 51. My left hip had been turning outwards and my left foot was sitting relaxed at about the 10 O’Clock position and couldn’t turn my foot in anymore and hurt like heck.

I was to the point I could barely tie my left boot up, or clip my toenails on my left foot. I was bone on bone for my hip. I could actually hear and feel my hip bone popping and grinding 😬.

Immediately after the surgery and they stood me up in the walker, I remember looking down and my left foot was pointing straight at the 12’ O’Clock position! 😮

Get it done when you can, don’t put it off like me.

I remember being at the orthopedic surgeon's office for a consult re: an on-the-job injury to my L bicep, and asked him if an x-ray I saw hanging was mine. He said it was.

I told him that they told me in the late 70's that I had scoliosis when I went for the NYPD physical, but I didn't know what scoliosis was or what they were talking about. (I was rock climbing, competing in karate, lifting a couple times a week etc.)

I asked if I needed surgery to correct it and he asked me how old I was. I said 40 something, (I don't recall), and he asked if I had problems on the job or working out and I said no. His advice was leave it alone, avoid chiropractors and stop running on hard surfaces. (I didn't need an excuse to stop running.)

I still get some pains from workouts and such, but I'm glad that I listened to the guy who cut up Miami Marlins, Heat and Dolphins for a living. Nice of him not to take advantage and say I needed to be cut on.
