The Remington thread

As a collector of Harness Jacks, it is inevitable that I have gathered up a few Remingtons. Here is a pair that also illustrates the difference between a "Teardrop" Jack, and a "Regular" Jack. They are often confused. A teardrop thins slightly in the middle as it tapers, and is sometimes hard to notice!

The teardrop, with Ebony handles;

This celluloid Regular Jack has straight sides;

Nice Charlie. Celluloid is like a woman,they're both beautiful,but sometimes dangerous.

I thought you'd like those HJs, Duncan. They weren't in that bunch you looked at when you were here - with apologies!

Very cool jacks, Charlie. I really appreciate the illustration of the difference in the patterns. It's subtle, and hard to detect without seeing them side by side like that. Well done! :thumbup:

Charlie - no med to apologise - I just could not get enough of looking at your lovely knives- nervous as well to be honest - enduring my handling of such a precious lot of knives was correct- but my goodness the Ebony Clip Teardrop would be a great model for the next CC HJ,Ebony of course - but a peach seed In this would be just amazing.
I would be all over that like a Rash.

Thinking about purchasing a Remington bird & trout knife made by Bear & Son. Anyone have any hands on experience with this knife? I prefer short bladed fixed blades over folders for hunting.

Extracted from a catalog:
I wonder about the main blade!? The knife is different from the catalog, even though it is stamped with the correct number! Hmmmmmmm?!

As coincidence has it, two Remingtons arrived in my mailbox today. They're both 440A stainless Remington UMC shield knives, with jiggled Delrin covers, manufactured on contract by Camillus.

First is the Remington R-8. It's a wonderful large stockman in Remington finish, with a scalloped sheepsfoot blade.

Edit. The Remington R-8 is basically the same knife as the often sought after Camillus manufactured Buck 301, but with a scalloped blade and different cover/shield combination.

The second is an oddball Remington R-4. It's a beautiful saw scout in that same Remington finish, with a very strange scalloped coping blade. The normal R-4 has a plain scalloped blade.
