The results: custom dyed my Case Bose Cattle knife

I wish more companies did a black jigged bone. Not very common at all. It turned out nice. I will say that I think you had a bit of luck on your side. Dunking the whole knife with thin bone scales is perilous. I ruined a Case Barlow with the exact same process. It warped the scales and they pulled away from the liners. Maybe I did something wrong but it was enough to shy me away from trying it again!

You've now increased its value...as it's one of one  Shrewd move!

I'd like to ask how the metal-work reacted to the dye? Being all stainless, no carbon or brass, I assume it was alright or did it need a lot of polishing afterwards?

Regards, Will
I doubt the value has increased (it’s probably destroyed), but I really love it. Yeah, I polished up a bit as the dye wanted to rest down in crevices and stick to the backspings. No pitting or anything though. I used some non abrasive metal polish and then ren wax. Hadn’t yet polished it in the initial pics. It looks amazing now, so I’ll post some more.

Excellent results, I like it. Something about Case's jigged bone, (or smooth handled Case for that matter), in black just looks outstanding.
I'm not sure if you stated it or I missed it, but what color was the bone before you dyed?

Antique bone. See pic on previous page of this thread.

Turned out awesome!!! You have some balls to try it, but I'm happy you pulled it off. I have several of the Bose/Case collabs, and IMO that is the best one they made. I happen to like the original color (mine is a tad darker than yours), or otherwise I'd be tempted to copy you, but maybe with a deep forest green. Anyway . . . congrats!

Your'e a braver man than I am Gunga Din.
I dyed black a TB production model Saddle trapper that came with awful derpy grey coloured scales...that was years ago..In retrospect you could have dyed a case large stockman first up to experiment...the blue scales look pretty good tho.

How long did you boil it?

Yeah, it wasn’t my first try with dye. I did a case sowbelly that turned out great. But the blue wasn’t a home dye job, that was a recover in camel bone.

Don’t recall exactly but noticed the one scale pulling away after only a few minutes.

Yours turned out better than mine.

I had some pitting when I added salt. I tried it first with. I salt and wasn’t happy so tried salt and did it again to see if the results changed, which it didn’t to any great degree.
