The Road-Opens this week

WaPo called it "a glorified zombie movie with literary pretentions." Ouch. Scathing review. Now I'm bummed.

1. By "WaPo," I assume you mean The Washington Post?

2. If so, are you being sarcastic? Generally speaking, anything The Washington Post hates, the common man will probably adore and anything adored by the common man is generally thoroughly despised by The Post. :D

If I found myself to be in agreement with anything a Post writer were to scribble, I might have to check myself in for a tune-up at the local hospital that has a shrink ward. :)

I must admit it was an incredible piece of writing. However, Sawgrass7 and I are in the same camp. As a father of 4 the book ripped my heart out and stomped on it, and I prefer not to watch the visions it painted before my eyes.

That's what it was supposed to do. It's what you do with it that makes it valuable or just another book or movie.

Yes, Don, I was being sarcastic. :)

I am happy. I couldn't figure an NRA member being happy with that fishwrapper/birdcage liner. :D

I took Ms. Hornady to task for her review. I guess she would have liked it better if Mortensen would have left Theron for another man and then departed for the road with the boy. FIVE STARS!

As it is, she gave it **1/2

In films, I always subscribe to the rule that "those that can....do...those that can't...get hired as critics" :D

SOooooo...OK, who saw it, and is the film a good movie? I know that the book is always better than the film...usually anyways. But I have yet to read the book, should I wait, and get the book then DVD, or should I go and see the film on the big screen and then read the book? Gene

Do you want the book?

The book was really moving. I felt like crap after reading it for about a month. Looking forward to feeling like crap again when the movie comes out.
Viggo Mortensen is really good. See Apalosa and History of Violence.

Viggo was awesome in "Hidalgo" also.

The WaPo review didn't seem all that scathing to me, but rather lukewarm. Not too surprising, as the book itself seems to get mixed reactions. It seems more to me the usual suspects are exhibiting a thin skinned defense against the WP for reasons largely unrelated to the movie itself.

The girl and I saw it tonight and we both thought it was fantastic. I read the book a few years ago so my memory of it is a little fuzzy. What I do remember of the book the movie portrays perfectly.
It's probably one of my favorite movies at this point. We'll see it again when it's not so limited of a release.

I'll probably be able to find pirate copies on the street here long before it comes out in the theater. Brazil is pirate DVD central.

^ Hehehe, I wouldn't be quite sure of that Pict (just in case it doesn't get released here).

Considering the amount of cinematic "gems" Hollyweird's been releasing these couple of years, I seldom watch anymore except when a movie really piques my interest.
