The Road-Opens this week

You have summed up the majority of the movie versions of books I have seen - very very few are better than the book.

TF

One movie that was very close to the book is "Silence of The Lambs."

As far as The Road is concerned, I think they did what they could. They could have been a lot more faithful to the book but the movie would have been Schindler's List in length.

I would love to read the book if you want to pass it on! I enjoyed the movie but would like to read the inspiration for it. As I understand it, the book won a Pulitzer.

You should be able to find it at the local library. That's how I read it a while back. It's pretty common and easy to find. Hell, it was an Oprah book club choice!

Well, I did put it down, but the trailer got me thinking.

Ash? Volcano erruption? If so, I wonder where the best place would be, for greatest chances for survival. Given the volcano locations in the US, in the relatively narrow strip of land West from them, i.e. on the Pacific Coast? Lots of forests and open space, to organize in small groups.

Away from major cities? Although we don't have a rich history of canibalism like Russia (except for that little Donner incident, ha ha ha), we do have a history of looting and pillaging, sometimes quite organized.

Would definitely need something for purifying water, and traps/snares for small animals and fish. BTW, what are the main characters (the good guys) eating in the movie? Are there outbreaks of disease? Where is their starting point? Was the climate affected?

Here's what real decline of US civilization looks like (at least at this point in time) in a small midwest town of Cairo, Illinois.

The residents used to shoot at the local hospital at night, when the lights were turned on in a room.

I posted this elsewhere, so if you have seen it already, I apologize.

Saw "The Road" tonight.

OK, it wasn't bad, it suffers from being condensed to movie length, but it follows the core of the books story fairly well. A few things I would have liked to see done better though.

Maybe it's been to long since I read the book, but I didn't remember the father being so cold blooded, but I could be wrong.

Robert Duvall's short role was great.

Loved all the footage of the vintage Smith & Wesson M&P!!!!
