The sharpest factory knife out of the box?

Sharpest knife i've ever purchased was a Cold Steel Master Hunter. Absolutely scary sharp. The only knife i've ever owned that I was truly intimidated by-I was afraid of losing body parts the first time I used it to skin a deer.

Sharpest out of the box...a Global 6" utility knife. All the rest I have improved upon.

Para - We are in agreement. Sharpen!

Ralph - I am new here, but my definition of 'hair poppin' is cutting standing hairs on my arm...sorta like shaving, but 1/8" above my skin. Some steels will not do this, most geometries will, given work.

Sharpen it!

CS Master Hunter and Marble's Fieldcraft both came scary sharp. Then I made them even sharper. Haven't lost any body parts... yet.

Every boker I ever bought was as sharp as my microtechs. I use a lcc as my daily carry now and it seems to hold its edge good.

The top 12 sharpest production knives I've had were all MicroTech's. Even my HALO3. Scares the bejeezus out of me when someone goes to check their sharpness with their thumb.

I'm surprised that more Fallkniven owners have spoken up. When Mike and Spark did their head to head testing awhile back, I believe they said that the Fallkniven was the sharpest out of the box compared to Busse and CS. I know my A1 was an absolute razor (and still is) right out of the box and would give any CS a run for it's money. For quite awhile, I was using the A1 to slice articles out of the newspaper. It did it with ease.

I get some pleasure from finding a relentlessly peaceful use for a combative looking knife.

The little UDT that my wife has is THE sharpest factory knife I have EVER seen. MT has the scary sharp thing down to a science!
It will pull and cut hair without touching the skin.
Second would have to be the Spyderco Military. The edge on that is also PERFECT!! I also find the serrated edge on the Civilians to be scary sharp. I vote Spyderco for sharpest serrations

The Kershaw Onions and the Marbles seemed to be the sharpest right out of the box.

The sharpest edges I have (out of the box) are definately from TOPS. They are really sharp enough to shave with!

I have been WOWED by my two Microtechs which came super sharp out of the box. I also have a small sebenza which is on Par with my Microtechs

Cold steel fixed blades(way to go, Will) and Spyderco (SAL!)are sharp from the box but the sharpest knives I ever got were Kershaws.
I am referring to mods 1415, 1416, several folders and special edition knives. I have no experience with any of the Ken Onoin collaborations, so I cannot comment on those.
BTW, I really appreciate a knife that is razor sharp right out of the box. I figure that if the guys who made it can't get it sharp, how in the he** am I going to be able to do it.

Darrel, to answer your second question I have tow ways of testing the sharpness. I first check how easily it will take the hair off my arms legs and secondly I run my finger along the edge longways and test it's bite into my finger. It works but takes a lotof faith and a lot of practice to know what you are feeling but since I have at least 3 people a day ask me to sharpen there knives at work then I get alot o practice.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

CS and spyderco for consistancy. my Kramer 5160 5" utilty kitchen was freakin sharp.

I agree with PARA about sharpening yourself but I don't mind waiting until the factory edge wears. there is something about a factory edge that I rarely see on a custom. I am surprised cause Bud nealy is someone I have seen at shows whose knives are scary sharp. but a lot of customs don't come really sharp. My sabatier kitchen knives really have an awesome edge but they came dull.

even though he was an enemy of mine, I had to admitt that what he had accomplished was a brilliant piece of strategy. first he punched me, then he kicked me, then he punched me again.

I hope most people understand that sharpness and quality have nothing to do with each other.I have seen some knives by Frosts and the old Parker-Edwards that had some of the sharpest edges.Lately one of the sharpest knives was on a CRKT M16.
I think the companys with the most consistantly sharp edges are C.Reeves,Microtech and Spyderco
