Beautiful day. Saturday night hangin' in the shop. Fire going outside burgers hotdogs beer. Probably going to tune up a couple of the XM's ( that is a great Saturday night adventure)
Whats everybody up to?

Workin the wicked edge...but on an "off brand". Your night sounds much better.

Finally set up my Wicked Edge last night and used it on an OLD slipjoint. What a great and easy to use system. Bought it from Clay at the NYCKS last November :o I know, I know...should have set it up long before this.

Set the WE up on the coffee table. Turned on the TV and watched a little college hockey while playing with the WE. Man I love this tool. Doing some old slip joints and friends kitchen knives. Little more practice and on to the xm. I did have the pin that hold the arm on come out and will call Kay on Monday morning. Friend gave me a butter knife as a joke when I asked for kitchen knives......well the joke was on him.

It was a beautiful day, I went to a friends house to meet up, I watched an XM be sharpened and some XMs "tuned up", I brought the burgers, another buddy made a fire on their deck and we all went to shoot guns.

I only wish I had more time.

Never to late, Perhaps you were enjoying the anticipation:) I've learned that there is an internal clock and sometimes we do things when WE are ready not when the world around us thinks we should.

Sharpen his butter knife and give it back with a razor edge, that would be hilarious. Depending on your XM edge and what you want to do you may just end up touching up with 1000 grit or the 1200 ceramic (or one of the W/D set-ups) I've done all of the above w/different XM's. Enjoy.

He never farted or talked back, never thought he would be in the roasting pit few hours later – Haha (Good tasting ugly pig)

If I saw that thing running at me I would shart my pants.... I'm talking about the pissed off pig (the one in the pic)

As Elmo was once heard asking Kermit, " So, what did Piggy taste like?"

Is it gamey or just like normal pork?

Feral hogs differ, some might taste gamy others might have a milder taste; a lot depends on the environment and food source (pecan farm feral hog nutty-pig) :D as well the way you prepare the meat.

Another very important factor try to kill the animal with one shot in the brain, neck; body shots might spoil a part of the meat, any animal that does not expire instantly will produce large amounts of adrenaline; the taste of the meat will be affected by that.

I hunt hogs where their diet is mostly prickly-pear cacti.

Preparation:

Clean the hog and season, fill the belly with onions, garlic cloves, carrots, sweet-potato, jalapeños and cream cheese, close the belly and wrap the hog tightly in aluminum foil or banana leaves and then in wet burlap. Finally you want to wrap that in a heavy wire frame. This holds the whole thing together and gives you something to hold on to. Once you have it wrapped tightly you are ready for the fire.

Dig a hole in the ground make fire, as soon as the meat is in the pit you need to cover it up. This keeps the burlap from burning by starving the fire of oxygen. The coals will remain hot for days, but you won't have an actual fire anymore. This can be done by covering the pit in dirt.

Traditionally the meat goes in the fire at night for eating the next day. Since the meat is tightly wrapped it won't dry out and can tolerate a little overcooking so you have a large window to work with.

I cook the hog depending on the weight 12 to 18 hours; yummy yummy for the tummy.

Lots of fun and good eaten (Rubi try-it)

Man, that sounds absolutely amazing and certainly is from beginning to end......The preparation and comradre of the Hunt, the Kill and then the - Feast.
Good stuff.
Tugs at the the instinctual primal chords for sure.
