The Shop.... After Dark

Here's one of my frequent visitors. He's about 10-12 feet away from me.

Yeah, you cannot out run a bear or climb a tree. Better to stay far away

I have started to be more careful ( I think) having grown up in the woods is a blessing and I constantly try and check myself to make sure I haven't become complacent. I went after an 800lb. (+) one night and got too far into the woods and too close too him and apparently we both realized my mistake at the same time, He turned and I thought, You just made a Big mistake.
I hit him with a rock and ran like I was 18 again. Thankfully he did not chase me.
Over this past Winter I watched an Animal Planet special on the Most Dangerous animals to humans. There were the usual Great White, Grizzly, etc. when they came to #1 and it was the Black Bear it was sobering. Apparently most animals attack but the Black Bear actually eats you.
So.... I still mix it up with the local wildlife but just at greater distances.

I'm glad you saw that on Animal Planet because most people don't believe me. The black bear is the most dangerous of all bears because it is the most unpredictable. Grizzly defends a 50 yard radius at all times, get in it and they attack. Polar bear when hungry will eat you. The black bear runs away a lot of times so people don't have the same fear as with other bears but then one day it doesn't run away and you're too close! I had that happen to me at a cabin years ago and it was as close of a call as you can get and still be able to tell the story.

The Black Bear (in these parts) are getting increasingly aggressive. I have had Large Adults come in my garage and climb the steps to get to the garbage can. That was the one I chased into the woods, afterwards when I was "thinking" it did occur to me that if he was emboldened enough to do that - was he really the bear I wanted to be 100yds into the woods at 4a.m. with. Answer. No.
They are coming into homes here in the mountains, only a matter of time before an attack or two will happen and then honestly, I will feel sorry for the bears not idiots like me.
If I get whacked - it was my own fault.

Man I am in the wrong business. Just got back from the Vet ( cat's been throwing up and pissin' on the rugs)
Diagnosis: He has stress

Stress! I'm the one who just wrote the check for $226.00 to find out my cat is ......stressed. R U %^&*ing kidding me?
I turned down the prescription for Prozac (for the cat, she didn't offer me any)

The cat sleeps 23 hrs a day, what is stressful?

World has gone completely BatShit Crazy (IMO) Kitty ProZac give me a break.

( Wow) hit Quote,

I just read this, and have a question, why would you hit the bear with a rock? Wouldn't that make it mad and more likely come after you?
You did realize you probably won't kill it even if you hit it right =)

Just a thought Rubi, the cat is only awake for one hour a day but what does he see....well you sharpening knives, throwing rocks at bears and probably looks over your shoulder and reads some of your writings........again just a thought.

Thanks for the laugh Man, read this on my way to the office this morning (Dental Surgeon was yesterday morning and that was preferable to the office)
LMAO, good writing Man:thumbup:

The cat is lucky to have you as it's owner. You cared enough to get a "professional" evaluation. Lucky dog…uhm…I mean cat.

I know of a case at a woods camp where a black bear stood up to the serving window of the cookhouse so the cook went outside and threw a rock to drive him off but hit the bear in the head and killed him. The cook actually felt bad because he didn't want to hurt the bear, just scare him away! lol True story.
