Happy Easter fellow reprobates, heathens, and savages!

Did anyone else see a used BK12 for sale? Good deal on a GREAT knife.
Pm me for details.

I don't know, JT. I think the guy was probably telling the truth. The wood from the tree in the handles was authenticated when it fell back a few years ago, from what is on his website he's a family man, and his son literally almost pee'd himself when he saw my dad snatch up the knife and start looking at it.

Anything's possible, and yes getting iron from meteorites to make steel is a legitimate, proven thing. I'm just saying the more amazing it is, the more it needs to be checked out before laying down money. There are some real scammers out there :(

You should really toss a disclaimer out there, Dres.... This is not for the faint of heart. You never know what you'll find in either one of their heads.... Especially James's.
*shudder*

I heard that :grumpy:

Any input JT or Todd?

By all means go for it, even if it's just as a hobby or sideline (as it is for probably 90% of the people doing it). Everyone should know their way around a basic workshop anyway, and knifemaking will introduce you to all kinds of useful skills. I wouldn't recommend actually apprenticing at this stage. You can learn a whole heckuva lot on your own just by "picking brains" on the forums, and especially by going to hammer-ins/grind-ins and real knife shows. That's a more efficient use of your time and resources. Also, do you want to learn to design and make your own knives, or how to copy someone else's? There's nothing "wrong" with either approach, but it's something to consider.

For Pete's Sake, start with known, fresh steel, not old rusty junk full of pits and microfractures and who-knows-what else. 1075/1080/1084 is your best friend, starting out. They're inexpensive, easy to work with, pretty easy to HT without a lot of fancy equipment, and they make very tough blades that take a very crisp edge easily.

But if you want to do it for a living, Have a serious backup plan. It's not a coincidence that most fulltime makers are retired from doing something else. Get a cert or degree in something that could get you a "real" job, marry money, something. And as Todd said, being a fulltime knifemaker is not always as fun and glamorous as it looks. The work can be lonely and dangerous, the hours are long and dirty... but at least the pay sucks!

Making knives is like being an athlete or a rockstar... many are called, few are chosen. (except that in music or sports, there's a slim chance you might actually make money at it someday :p)

Tennessee...Indiana...What's the difference? :D

If you have to ask, you'll never understand ;)

Does anyone wear the LA police gear Operator Tactical Pants? What do you think of them?

I hate the name but I like what I see and the price is nice.

Jeremy

I do not have those. I have a 4 pairs however of the 5.11 covert tactical cargo pants. They are awesome. However the price is SIGNIFICANTLY different than the LAPG. I'd love a pair that are made in the US but I have not been able to find any that are.

I have a few of the 5.11s and a few of the tru-spec 24-7s and really like both. Now i just go with which ever brand happens to be cheaper at the time as both have things i like about them that the other doesnt. I dont even look at jeans anymore.

I have a like the 511 pants and shorts. I am looking to get pants that are a little bigger so I can carry with an iwb holster. I think I am going to go ahead and order them. They get good reviews and the price is right.

Happy Easter to all !!!

I have 5 pairs of the 5.11 Covert Cargo Pants and my son has 4 pairs. We love them. I'm going to call/e-mail 5.11 to beg them to make shorts of the same style. The pockets are really great for carrying firearms, knives, cell phone, keys, etc and keeping them secure with the zippers.

Of course I was just funnin' with you all. I've been to both Indiana and Tennessee and they both have their charms. Before I joined Bladeforums, I did a couple of trips to Seymour, Indiana, to the Muscatuck Urban Training Center. Very interesting place with interesting history!

This also = me. There are never enough pockets in jeans for all the crap I carry. Its also increasingly difficult to find a pair cut for men in this world anymore

I got a set of 5.11 Tac Light Pro's and I told the wife that's all we're buying until I can find a competitor that I like better. She then reminds me of the closet full of cloths I need to donate because I don't wear anymore. Spring cleaning is around the corner!

I was thinking of getting some more, however I noticed that Tru-Spec has a similar design in a navy blue. I was thinking about trying them out instead.

I don't know how well the design would transfer over to shorts but I'd love to give them a try! Usually for me though if I'm wearing shorts having the visible pockets wouldn't be an issue. However I would love to have a zipper cargo pocket instead of the usual button closure.

I used to be a 5.11 guy, but after trying a pair of the Tru-Spec 24/7s I went back and bought six more pairs. Will buy six more when I get back to SMKW. Jeans are a thing of the past for me too.

Yessir, love my 24/7s as well. I like the 5.11s quite a bit too but prefer the back pocket and the flashlight pocket on the 24/7s.... Really all the pockets.

The 5.11s have more room in the crotch area, and dont feel as tight when squatting/kicking/hiking/climbing etc.

If i could find a pair of pants that fit like the 5.11s but had the pocket configuration of the 24/7s id never buy anything else.... As it stands i go for both/either and have a few of each.

Both are comfortable, light, repel water and dirt well, are cool, have plenty of pocket space and are made well.

Currently sitting at a local bar having a drink or two. Christine is at the office finishing a time sensitive project. She was also there yesterday. At least today she took Oz with her to keep her company. And house hunting officially sucks if you are looking for an unconventional space. That is all. Now I have to drink my shot of Jameson.

If you need to have some company, having James there with ya is a good choice Gus!

Currently I'm laying in bed. I been here since Friday night. Does anyone know how awesome this is?! I am actually getting rest this weekend! Sleeping and the such!

I agree, James is a good drinking buddy! Might have to have another.

How are you holding up?
