Last few days I've been using a Russell Green River knife for everything and have come to the conclusion they knew what they were doing 150 years ago. Odd isn't it?

That sucks about the truck Biscuit.

What one are you using? The classic 5'' one? I have been thinking about getting one of the butchers and putting a handle on it for my dad at some point. He could use a good larger kitchen/general purpose knife.

My favorite Green River is the Sheep Skinner. The Buffalo Skinner and Sheep Skinner have much thicker blades that the others and the curve on the Sheep Skinner IMO is just right.

This one. I got a blade blank and put an osage orange handle on it. I think it is the Hunter.

Speaking of axes...what do y'all use to sharpen? I have been debating grabbing the Lansky Puck...but I dunno. I have always filed a axe a lot, is that a proper thing to do or is that antiquated? lol

eh, it's like 7 bucks. just ordered a puck. should arrive monday with my Norton's.

I use a file first then some sand paper to refine the edge.

file is good, belt sander is good, norton coarse followed by a norton fine is good...

That is an awesome picture.
It's funny that Osage Orange sounds so much better than Hedge, even though they are the same thing. Kinda makes me want to cut the top off of an old fence post and turn it into a set of handles.

Thanks trade. That is a nice looking knife and a great picture. At some point I'll have to pick one of the larger ones up for my dad.

oh my

Fiskars 18-Inch-Staysharp-Mower

I have the most bad ass job ever! I got to work at a surgery center, they take me into the back and have me change into scrubs and tell me before I go into the surgery room I am going to need to scrub in too. It is only a minor surgery comparatively but still it is fun.

I get to keep the scrubs too.

Next time, have a kid, you'll get an alarm clock for the next 6 years.

Came in the mail today - Svord Farmer, 5" blade, about 1/8 thick, convex edge, fit and finish OK, L6 sweed carbon steel, takes a good edge, I think. Feels like Old Hickory went to Europe.
