The Sprig

That's dumb. Taiwan made Spyderco knives are superb quality.

I wouldn't say dumb; I want to support USA labor . . . Spyderco is right up the freeway from me (well a hunert miles or less but anyway) . . .

Taiwan made Spyderco knives are superb quality

This definitely ^^^^^

I am glad I finally took the time to search out this thread (something about the Sprig) being rather sheltered here in my bunker :) I had only heard of it recently. The blade said buyme, Buyme, BUYME ! ,BUYME NOW !

The handle said "uuuuuummmmmm".
over all I feel I was not as far off EDCing this every day for a decade as I thought once I started looking at more robust work knives .

Still I have been on a quest for better steel for some time and what I believe that I "NEED" as a more hand friendly and versatile handle.

So I said no to the Sprig and bought the Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter and made it thin : 2.2mm (.087 inch) at the spine and .5mm (.019) behind the edge or a bit thinner now.
The 5mm allen wrench is a tad thicker but gives an idea of where I started.

So what I'm asking is and what I feared away from the Sprig for is . . . don't you wish it had that sculpted indent between the front of the handle and the blade and maybe the more pronounced finger guard ? I would even be up for filing that into the handle but it is already quite thin there.

The sculpting I am attempting to show here

and here

Sounds like there is enough traction when wet and the larger rear keeps from dropping the knife when held point down.

Does any one wish it had some texturing on the handle ? Think stock ny. Griptillian handle.

It is probably just a matter of time before I get a Sprig because it really does have a superior blade and that is what it is about . . .

Love my Sprig.

Nuf said huh ?
Guess I gotta try one.
'Course you know this is going to destroy or seriously impede my savings for the first Sebenza ?

I use mine at the cleaning table often in wet and bloody conditions. I sanded the handle with some 150. This brings up some of the fibers and gives the g10 much better grip.

I'm considering picking up another Sprig since the missus seems to use it for everything.

Great knife.

Surfingringo,

Thanks for the handle sanding tip.
I am glad I checked back on this thread.
Is it agreed that Shaptons are enough to really sharpen the vanadium carbides, lets say I want to go more polished edge, or are paper wheels with diamond best ?

rpn,

saw a video on YouTube from Shot Show with Phil Wilson talking about it...it was very cool!

I have searched and searched for that and all I come up with is the Phil Wilson on the South Fork. Could this be the one you watched ? If there is a Phil W. on the Sprig does any one have a link ?

Thanks

PS: any problem with the sheath dulling the knife ?
