The spyderco native 5 is currently the best EDC knife change my mind!

Lol 😆 finally someone just comes right out and says it like it is. Great way to add to the thread 👏

Awt scales on it take care of the plastic although I do enjoy the benefits of the bidirectional texture and the light weight. Also there's a g10 option

I like the audible click from the lock back and the old school feel of the action.

Yes framework are the "best" as long as your hold fingers just right 👌 and hope you don't get lock stick or lock rock 😉 I do carry an xm-18 so I have love for the frame locks too.

I agree, the hole in the blade is just flat out weird! That being said some would add function over form. With sweaty hands or gloves there's no fighting with a thumbstud and no thumbstud in the way of the cutting path.

Esthetically... there are much better looking knives for sure.
I was just doing what you asked. 😁
Actually I have nothing against the Spyderco way of doing things. The Spydie hole is my favorite way to open a knife.
Just kidding about the frame lock. Tried them and I don’t like them.
Although they are mostly ugly, Spydercos are very functional.

But for real though... change my mind. Share your thoughts.

I have a Native 5 with S35VN, G10, etc.
I seldom carry it because the ergos don't work for me. Part of the spydie hole is blocked by the handle. Makes it difficult for me to open. I've almost cut myself several times trying to open it. I can open it, but I need to stay focused while doing so. Nice knife. Well made. Good heat treat. But it does not work for me.

Roger that ya gotta try a lw version with awt scales it'll "change YOUR mind" 😉 it did for me. I've tried the g10 and didn't like it.

Funny, I could have started a thread titled the same thing only about the Manix 2. I have the PM2 Crucarta and it’s ok and I very much disliked the Shaman I had, but the M2 has been amazing so far. I am glad Spyderco has so many options that we can all find our favorite.

I have tried liking the Native a couple times now and the finger choil always ends up being the biggest issue as I don't like losing the blade length. The blade is also thicker than I prefer in a pocket knife.

For me the Endela is my most used model followed by the Delica. They are not my favorite pattern but I find them adequate for my uses and I like the steels offered.

I do prefer the back lock myself.

Lol most likely true but I figured it might be a fun post 🍻

I use my edc knife for Cutting tape, plastic straps, pipe insulation, wire insulation, opening packaging

So many knives! I think ive been at this whole knife aquisition/collectin/user thing for about 10 years. I've tried big to med to small. My sweet spot is around 3" blade with 4" handle.

"Why didn't those work for me?" Now that is a good question! So much to say there over a 10 year period. Everything comes into play. Weight, dimension, steel, materials, fit and finish, action, control, and ergos to name a few.
I understand.

You are celebrating that you found what you were looking for. I hope to be there someday.

Nah, I don't!

I want to keep collecting/using.

Buy what you can, use what you buy.

When I look at knife brands spyderco and benchmade seem way over priced for what they are offering many with plastic handels and mediocre blade materials.. kershaw actually is a better product using aluminum handels and magnacut at a much more reasonable price . Pro tech is more in line with spyderco and benchmade in price thou the quality is tops.. I only buy American made knives.

I've tried Spydercos. I can't get used to the "bump" that encloses the Spyderhole (TM). Not sure why, just lost interest in thumb-ramp-type spine shapes. I like the spine of the blade to be in-line or drop away from the handle line, 'cause I have short fingers, and its easier that way to choke up on the blade.
But the Native 5 doesn't have a bump...

I feel the same way about the Leaf Jumper and Delica models. The work perfectly for me, especially the Leaf Jumper.

Ah I think you are onto something! This may be the "circle of knifelife" for us all at some point.

I'm sure ill be onto the next one in time. I ordered a trm neutron 2 with a couple of sets of scales to try out On saturday. It looks to have some similarities to the native. We shall see if old faithful remains in top 😉

Because the need for a knife varies from person to person and situation to situation there is no best knife, only what knife you have when you need it

I really like the Native 5. I also like Spydie back-locks - especially the Stretch 2 XL and Native Chief.

That said, they're not my favorites for EDC. The handle is just a bit too short for a solid 4-finger grip for my hand without grabbing the choil, which is one of my pet-peeves for any knife this size (it is not small). I'm fine with doing that on something like the Chap, because it actually is small.

Despite that - I really dig them and carry them often.

Best EDC? Nah, not for me. The knife I carry most often is a ZT 0609. It was an RJ Martin collab and didn't really end up being very popular then or now. What I love about it - it has the full 4-finger grip I want, carries like a Bugout, slim, blade design maximizes the cutting length vs the handle, places your index finger close to the cutting edge without needing a choil, thin blade stock and great cutting performance, great flipping action, and just has that feel-in-hand that makes it all work for me.

I love my Sebs, Inkosi, iMamba, TRMs, etc....but I still carry this one the most. You can't help who you love. ;)
