Hey guys, the title caught you eh? Well you're reading it right! My baby sebenza wasn't behaving and it cut me!! Can you believe the nerve?

It happened like this....

Well I went skiing a couple of days ago and it was decently cold. When we were done for the day we were packing up the car and such and I was standing there waiting for my friends to pack up the car also. It was cold, like I said and I put my hand in my pocket. Now I keep my Benza in my left pocket so when I put my hand in there little did I know that the sebenza was slightly opened by maybe .25 of an inch. So it was sticking out and my hand went it....SLICE!
eek.gif
Yeah...it was a pretty deep cut and all. It wouldn't stop bleeding for awhile. I put gauze and band-aids, but htat puppy hurt!

So I was wondering if I should be afraind of this happening again. I don't think it should have happened in the first place. And if I kept my knife on the right side it wouldn't have happened, but I have a pager there and blah, blah, blah.

Oh well... my pinky hurts! At least I know the Sebenza was sharp.

OUCH!!! I bet that did hurt like hell (especially with the cold weather and all). If it were me I'd switch pockets. In the event that you are left handed, well just be more careful!

Hi Humpty, congratulations you now belong to the Sebenza blood donor foundation
wink.gif

Last Friday I was having a ball at the shootingclubs Christmas competition and because everybody knows that I'm always carying a surgical kit
wink.gif
asked me to slice up the Christmas bread (Typical Dutch with raisins nuts and a almond/butter spice filling and white pouder sugar topping ).
I pulled out my large sebenza and started slicing perfect slices of Christmass bread and Luke Skywalker couldn't have done better with his "light Sabre".
About half way through the 4 pound bread the white pouder sugar topping started to color red nice red blotches. I just tried slicing my left finger (the one closest to the thumb) at the large joint.
It was a perfect cut, I never felt it and I bled like a pig.
At least the light sabre would have cauterized the wound and it wouldn't have bled that much.

Humpty, and everyone reading this "A merry Christmas and a very happy New Year".

Cheers, Bagheera

PS Humpty any news on the Chir Reeve/Al Mar 7.5" knife market, I'm still looking for one with an affordable price tag.

I dont have the privellege of owning benza, but from personal experience I know tha any knife I have i a dangerous bad boy until it cuts someone.. anyone.. it has never failed.

eventhough I try hard it seems to cut _someone_, anyone within a week and surrpisingly never cuts _anyone_ by accident again. I had a BM butterfly knife 4 years ago which basiclly stabbed my friend in the leg
smile.gif
then he behaved for 4 years. The knife i mean not my friend
wink.gif
wel my fried behaved too.

maybe you get REAL careful once you get cut with a certain knife once. you learn not to cross it again.

hey humpty, buddy, you should really wear a neck knife
biggrin.gif

maybe wear you benza in a concealex neck sheath... take care that you won't cut your "little friend" off next time

Humpty -- I think you now belong to a rather large club. Those Sebenzas are sharp. I did it last week opening a letter for goodness' sake! Happy Holidays to all.

Humpty,

Sorry to hear about the "ambush". Those sebenzas are sharp! Might consider a belt sheath to avoid that one in the future. Gary Graley at G2 has some nice ones.

Well so far I am lucky, no "bites" yet.
biggrin.gif

If I have to get cut though the is the one I want to have doing it, nice clean cut. Not like the other one that bit me way back when.

Humpty,
don't tolerate bad behavior. I'd say, give it to Lynn to include in his destructive test he's planning. That'll teach the bad Benza

Thanks Tangus, Humpty, sorry to hear about that, I've been cut using knives but luckily not been nabbed in the pocket, those ballbearing detents aren't always foolproof! I had to stop my daughter from throwing me my M2 AFCK last night, sharpening pencils, cause I know if I missed and it hit my leg it could open and cut my little friend as one put it.

Sheaths are handy but I know they are not always friendly to wear in some locales, unfortunately I don't have a sewing machine to do slip sheaths, don't handle the finer sewing stuff so it's the stronger heavier stuff that I work with.

Tangus might have just the ticket for you, if he works out that sheath with clip deal! the leather would be lighter and ideal for clipping to your pocket, or putting the whole thing in your pocket. Tangus you ought to post a pic of that sheath once you get her sewn up.

Good luck Humpty, sorry you have to have a sore digit for Christmas time!

I had my Crawford KFF open up a bit in my pocket one time. The carry is tip down so it ended up poking a hole in my pants pocket. I brushed it with my hand and cut my palm slightly.

I sent it back to have the detent adjusted. But just to be on the safe side, I now carry it in a Magill's Inside the Pocket Holster. This leather holster keeps the knife securely closed while in the pocket.

Thanks for all your kind words. The cut is healing okay and it's not too bad except for the inconvience....

I look into some sheaths... But I find myself checking the blade very often now. Paranoid I guess

For the record, I'd just like to say this "little friend" is not little

Arizona: Yeah, I read that thread, I want Lynn to DESTROY it!! J/K.... It's just needs to be trained properly.

Humpty,
Sorry that happened. Actually as well as the Sebenza closes, I'm surprised that happened!

In the near future I'll report on the Tangus sheath. Sounds promising!

Yea, the tip-downers really have us on this point (pun intended) I have never had this happen to me, but I imagine it hurt. Once I tried to close my XL Voyager like a Spyderco; that SOB swung down like the sythe of Death himself! My pointer hurt pretty bad!!!

Anyway, I have an idea. You could wrap a small rubber band around the handle and blade while the knife is closed (or wrap a larger one around a few times). That way it isn't very likely to open in your pocket. You could put a small strip of Scotch tape on the side you don't usually use to open it (That's left side for righties, right for lefties). The tape couldn't be reapplied every time though. I don't do this. Maybe I'll try, too.

Yes Humpty, you should be worried that this may happen again. Keep your sebenza in your right pocket. Hope the cut heals well.

Hey humpty!

Got an idea...carry the pager on the left side!

Most probably you've tried this but maybe it's easier to change side of beeper to get knife at "right"(!!) side ??

Anyway, take care and be well!/Jonas aka 2Sharp
