The strongest folders

I´m looking for a very strong folder. The Strider folders and the Sebenza are a bit expensive IMO.

So...which more inexpensive folder with the following specs would you recommend?

- thick blade (no specific size here, just the category "thick", you know what I mean)
- extremely good lock-up
- doesn´t have to look nice, it´s supposed to be a user
- steel shouldn´t be brittle

The Greco Falcon would fit the bill nicely, but it´s hard to find ´em over here.

Please just throw in all suggestions you can come up with. Thanks.

I just got a Gerber Applegate Combat Folder yesterday, so far I'm fairly impressed with it.

Hi,

Are Balisong's illegal in Germany? Their the strongest folder's you'll ever find:). Barring that, I really like Spyderco's Chinook.

HTH:D:).

What about the Buck Strider? It is a big strong folder, sharing many similarities with the actual Striders at a lower price. Or you could also get them in mini if you don't need such a big blade.

:)

Spyderco Chinook...That one is a strong as a mule, and built like a brick sh!thouse!.:).

I've been there not a long time ago, now I'm a happy owner of Al Mar S2K ;)

Chinook, ALMAR SERE2000, CRKT Crawford Kasper, Buck Strider, Timberline Worden Tactical. These are my "go-to's" for very strong folder needs.

Balisongs are illegal in Germany now. Even if they were still legal, this wouldn´t be the type of knife I´m looking for.

It doesn´t surprise me that you like the Chinook, Bob...I mean, it´s a Bowie style blade... :D

Thanks for the answers, y´all!

Benchmade AFCK 806 D2 is my suggestion. Handle ergonomics are outstanding on this knife IMHO. Comfortable in forward and reverse grip. Can't do too much wrong with an axis lock either.

:D:).

I just thought of another one, the Sog Tomcat:).

Actually I think that Tomcat suggestion may be better than my AFCK. The Tomcat is a solid knife. 'Bout as thick a blade as you're gonna find on a production folder.

Another vote for the SOG Tomcat. I handled one of these, in store, the other day and this one is everything that you're looking for; thick blade, tough lockback, and HEAVY!!!

I plan on gettin' one pretty soon. ;)

There are many fine folder designs that have been concieved. But if strength is your concern, SOG Tomcat is a monster.

Find one and hold it and watch all doubt melt from your mind. The lock has the satisfaction of a prison cell closing, and the blade thickness is mighty without question. To atribute the word "brittle" to it would probably get a chuckle from people who have seen it, if not booming ridiculous laughter. She looks good too.

I vote for the Buck/Strider, a very well built knife for the money.
I paid 100.00 for mine NIB.

Spydercos - Chinook, Native, etc..
the blade is decently thick
Any other choice from Spyderco would probably do fine.

Do you want big, strong folder with not too brittle blade?
Should it cut decently?
Should it be within acceptable price limits?
Should it provide reasonable handling comfort when working hard?
