The strongest folders

'Nother vote for the Spydie Chinook!

Also the Outdoor Edge Magna *IS* a very cheap strong knife, it is my abuser knife and while it has acquired a little vertical blade play and lost it's tip due to my wicked abuse, it still works, and will still shave like the dickens.

some strong folders imho

cammilus cuda maxx

buck/stider

BM axis AFCK

most any emerson (ie SOCFK/spec war/commander)

spyderco stainless police

wouldnt feel bad about any of them

Check out the CRKT Bladelock!
It's a very stout and strong knife but it does'nt feel like an anchor in your pocket.

Best of all, it only cost about $60.00 US dollars.

Good luck,
Allen.

No Doubt About It - The Cuda Maxx! It's bigger, tougher, stronger, locks up great with the strongest lock, cuts super with its D2 blade, bulletproof. First-rate factory knife, a rough-and-tumble sebenza.

Out of all the low to mid priced folders i have owned i would only trust my fingers to one knife, my PCKS Buck 110, This thing has been to hell and back, it shows the wear but it still works flawlessly. Never had a lock failer with it, more than i can say for the rest of the folders i have owned.

I would like to get one of these recommended 'strong folder's as well but I want a low profile one about the size of a CRKT M16.

Which ones fit the bill?

I just went to "reply" without reading most of the other replies, so if a Spyderco Chinook has already been mentioned I will agree..if not, then let me tell you it is ONE STRONG folder. Nothing delicate about it either...you could tie it to the end of a rope and use it for a wrecking ball. ;)

And for the price it is one of the all-time best values in a high-end production knife.

A lot of "SOG Tomcat" votes in this thread. I can't get past the really cheap steel they use for the blade.

and of course, with the possible exception of the Buck Striders and Spyderco Chinook, the strongest folder is a good Bali-Song, I recommend Benchmades (though Monarchs and the Microtech Tachyon are good, too.)

The Tomcat and other SOG knives do have AUS6 blades, but they are very well heat treated and perform just as well as some other more expesive alloys I have used. Also they are easy to sharpen. I have been using SOG knives since I was 14 and have yet to have one fail. The prof is in the performance not the materials. I have had CRKT knives of what I believe was the same steel literally fall apart in my hands (given it was an older one I have heard their newer ones are much better).

I think all the knives mention in this thread fit the criteria very well...all very strong. The desision should be made by what fits the pruchasers personal style. Style not just as in looks but what blade shape/handle confg/lock style fits the kindov cutting chores he will be doing. But dont think the Tomcat wouldnt perform or even outperform the other knives mentioned because of its steel...that would be a misconception. Just ask anyone who owns one.

Good thing cuz AUS6 constantly needs sharpenin' ;)

Do you want big, strong folder with not too brittle blade?
Should it cut decently?
Should it be within acceptable price limits?
Should it provide reasonable handling comfort when working hard?

Get Kit Carson - Outdoor Edge Magna!

Yes indeed, it is big and heavy, but feels GREAT opened. I don't use the bejabbers out of my knives, but mine went through a hose today like butter!

Strangly enough, just last night I was testing blades for flex. That one doesn't, my Kershaw Vapor II does just barely, and my Benchmade 350 flexes pretty good.

So I strongly suggest a Magna as well!

I just have to add this new Reese Weiland GTD folder that came today. It is of the integral lock variety and with a thick locking bar and even thicker blade it is as locked up a knife as I've ever seen! Remember I'm a Sebenza nut and if possible I believe this is tighter than my Sebbies!! Probably not tighter, just that the thicker componets make it seem that way.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Greco Falcon or Grifon yet. Oh, you have a tough time getting them where you are? Bummer. Maybe somebody here could give some hints on how to work around that, or help out. I have a Grifon; it's a beast.

I havent had too much problems with my SOG AUS6 knives, though I have with other AUS6. But I totally concede to the superior steel theory (BG-42 peice I just got is making my eyes bulge with it's irrepressible sharpness). I love good steel. I got much respect for my EDC (an AUS8 Pentagon Elite that retains an edge just great). Like I said, all of these suggestions are good. Marvelous, I think, to have them all in one place like this thread. I say find em', pick em' up, fall in love and buy the sucker. If you can find them in person they will tell you themselves about thier strength, as they have done to all of us. Tomcat gets votes cause its an honest-to-god strong working knife, and so do all of these other offerings. I myself am counting my loose change hoping I can snag some of these suggested blades.:D

.......................................................

Cuda Maxx...SIZE does matter, yeah...wooo!

Sebenza...I literaly dreamt of having one; it cut through everything in my dream.

Greco knives of any kind.....soooo sweet, you guys! *Eric Cartman voice*

Spydie Chinook....does whatever a Spydie can....I must have!

Just to name a few reactions so far. :)

You actually had a CRKT knife "fall apart" in your hands?
I've never heard of anything like that happening.
Did all of the screws come out all at once?

Allen.

Yup. The ones at the top, I think it was about 3 of em at the same time. I stoped cutting with it and the 2 handle sections just kinda spun around at the bottom. The blade didnt fall out but I just took it out to see what was going on inside the knife. It had been thru some stuff in its days, and like I said it was an older one, plastic handle with little rubber stripes going down lengthwise, tanto blade. Was fairly big for a folder, my first linerlock too. If I was to flick it out with any force the liner would actually go past the blade and Iwould have to us my teeth to pop it back into place, no feet of hand strength could unlock it. I have kindov been put off by liners ever since, though I like integrals. I think I was cutting griptape at the time of it's demise. I got it while I was a freshman in highschool I think, so it was old. My experience with the newer CRKT leads me to believe they are much better now.
