The Sunday Picture Show... (1-31-2016)

Wow David, you have good eyes. What you are seeing is my inventory tag. I use clear brother p-touch labels.

Ok. My wife thinks other items are wrong with me as well. Glad you see it different. (tongue in cheek) Thanks, DM

Stumps...was this taken when you were moving your 50th anniversary 110s to your next campsite?

That's right!!! And here is his tent......

That's funny guys

You guys are just off the richter charts. DM

Hahahaha! Funny stuff Tony and Roger.

I can't believe oregon and ItsTooEarly wasn't in on this too.

I'll be in my tent if you want me. :D

No doubt about it that is indeed Stump's tent. That pack train pic was when he was a pup. Now-a-days he's got the mules. And with that many mules no tent is too large and no knife collection needs any ding dang limits. Nope. Sky is the limit. High as you can stack em.

You may ask just how does he keep all of the those mules in line? And how does he manage to keep all his cutlery trades so close to the money? The same skills apply to both endeavors. Study the pics and for those of you unfortunates who haven't actually met my dear friend have a gander at the man who never met a knife that he didn't mangle:

Oregon, that is over the top. Great! Kind of reminds me of the 20 mule team than came on Sunday nights, "Death Valley Day". 18 large mules pulling 3 freighter wagons. The driver reminds me all too much of my Grandfather. DM

Death Valley Days was hosted by Ronald Regan in the mid 60's and was sponsored by "20 Mule Team Borax" If I understand what is written below, it was actually 18 mules and 2 horses.

See a clip of Ronald Regan as host here.... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=724057900021&set=vb.18748645785

The twenty mule team wagons were among the largest ever pulled by mules, designed to carry 10 tons of borax ore at a time.. The rear wheels measured seven feet high, with tires made of one-inch-thick iron.. There first attempt at using normal brass wrapped wooden wheels, ended in disaster.. The wagons beds measured 16 feet long and were 6 feet deep constructed of solid oak, and they weighed 7,800 pounds empty.. When loaded with ore and a 500 gallon water tank, the total weight of the mule train was 73,200 pounds.. With the mules, the assembled horses, mules and wagons stretched over 100 feet, thus the nick name of 20 mule trains.

The horses were called wheelers, the last two animals in the double line, that is, the two closest to the wagon.. They were ridden by one of the three men generally required to operate the wagons, and were needed because mules were not trained to be ridden.. The teams hauled more than 20 million pounds of borax out of Death Valley in the six years of the operation.

Ronald Regan wasn't the only host. I still watch it on TCM just about every week. John Wayne hosted a couple as well as several other prominent actors of the day. They based most of their half-hour episodes on real (or legendary) events. Pretty entertaining even for old TV.
