Some camping pics. Great knife is the Micarta Slim Pro 110. Perfect companion knife in any setting. The Brown Micarta just makes this knife. Curt Thompson in Pendleton OR made the fixed blade knife to order for me. He is a hobbyist but this knife is spectacular. 1095, Black Micarta with brass liners and pins. A couple camping pics thrown in.20200626_084357.jpg 20200626_084501.jpg 20200627_103344.jpg 20200626_183855.jpg 20200626_090152.jpg 20200626_055841.jpg20200629_000337.jpg

Are those pups yours?

Not ours— my wife looks at the photos and thinks we should have them all— but we have had two Malamutes from Sue. She is a top breeder, especially for the working/sledding aspect of Malamutes. I think eventually one will be going to Finland and another to France. I'm not sure about the rest.

The "Winchester" 301 was made by Camillus (1981-1982 ?) and is part of approximately 3000 made for Winchester employees. The other knife is a Camillus knife (1974-1985). To tell the difference between Schrade and Camillus knives there are a couple of easily seen characters—the Schrade knives have no visible bolster rivets and have longer swedges that go past the front end of the nail nic. In addition to the Schrade variation with grooved bolsters there are two more Schrade variations.

Bert, I've seen figures of 500, 1,000, and 3,000 for the Winchesters on this forum. 900 also sticks in my mind but can't remember the source.
Is there a definitive answer? /Roger

Roger, I have seen the number 3000 several times, but that may be high. Here is a quote from Vern Taylor in a message to J D Mandrell , so the number 1,000 may be closer:

"A really wonderful guy by the name of Jerry Lambert, a Winchester rep, was instrumental in putting this deal together, and you got the story pretty much straight. I believe there were 1000 ordered and something less than that delivered, maybe 900 or so. This is a very desirable knife because you have TWO groups of collectors after them: the Winchester guys and the Buck collectors. Personally, I think it is a $100 knife. Sales don't bear that out but I am firm in my appraisal. - Vern Taylor"
