A 2013 Buck 112. It's now Tuesday, I know, but these were taken on Sunday, along the Marcus Landslide Trail, MacDowell Sonoran Preserve, Scottsdale, Arizona. A nice day for a hike 90° and about 5% humidity. (Cold drinks hardly sweat in those conditions.)
Big granite boulders weathering into these rounded shapes, shedding debris about the size of aspirin tablets. Great spot for rock climbing.
And a closeup on the crystal structure of the granite. These are big crystals, which indicate the molten granite cooled very slowly, allowing time for the crystals to grow. That big lump the blade is pointing to is not a loose rock it's a giant crystal mass still attached to the bedrock. (Rule of thumb for igneous rocks: fast cooling = small crystals, slow cooling = big ones.)
