The Sunday Picture Show... (8-21-2011)

I agree, JB......mighty fine pics here today.

Here's my old Buck knife--must be getting well over 25 years old now.

(When I saw this knife today I was reminded of a recent thread where we discussed the definition of a Buck knife and I remembered that some said that if it had a handle that had been on a Buck.......they'd call it a Buck knife.)

So, this handle was definitely on a Buck at one time and I thought I'd share it.

:)

Hi All,

What fantastic photo's you have all posted in today's show!

This week in another thread there was some talking going on.......To Clean or Not To Clean.......Hmmmmm.....
You tell me, here is and old 4 dot 112 custom; "To Clean or Not To Clean" that was the question.

Coyote, congrats... thats a great knife to gift.

I was hunting with a good friend of mine, and he pulled one of those out, he said that he had found it in an old couch. I looked at it and saw that the blade was bent, so I told him that I would clean it up when we got back home. After a great day a field, I toook it to the vise bent right back into place and took a great edge.

Damn JB, you take some great pics too... I love your 500s...
I still want that gold etch 110 blade you have... ... ;) ...

Thanks for posting every Sunday... ITE

JB, it's an old Ken Richardson (back from the days gone by when they did them right).

I just looked at the mark and it's a 1986.

I also have an '86 with a three-inch blade. These were great knives.....not so much after they got popular and had to mass produce.

Johnny, I was excited to see than the Bantams still had their low price tag even though the blades and final assembly have moved back to America. Maybe Joe can answer this for us, but are the Bantams going continue to made of US/import parts, or are they going to be fully domestic in the future? Regardless, after touching up the edge on my nephew's (which took about a minute) I decided that I need one for days when the 301 might be a bit heavy in the pocket.

JB, You had already won me over on the 500s, but I Love stag and bone scales. Those are my favorites out of all you have posted. (Of course Haebbies scrimshaw series is making a strong case for itself). I'm a fan of using knives (at least a little) and while I can see keeping the 500s with gold on the blades mint, I would have to pick at least one of those to tote around.

The Swissbucks have been getting some love (and just a little hate) this week, so I thought I would share mine. It was my first knife and I carried it with pride for years. Often it was the only SAK in a scout camp that had all of its blades and tools intact. (For some reason scouts are hard on corkscrews... go figure. I opted for the model with a phillips-head screwdriver). It saw me through scouts, and it still finds its way into my pocket on occasion.

For some reason was thinking of 300 series one blades. Of recent, the 301 and 302 one blades will come to mind, a earlier factory one blade offer was the Limited Edition Buffalo and Pearl 303, circa 2006. As shown in the middle of the photo. My special 321 single is on right.

Others are described below. If anyone can think of any other single blade 300s speak up........ 300/ch

Group shot.

Of course everyone knows the 301 prototypes and then next years 302 catalog one blade came in four scale variations.
301 limited offer prototype. These seemed to come with just a hint of extra F and F. I would rate the Dymondwood and the Yellow at 99.9. As close to the Buck mountain top as you can get.

302 regular catalog offering

331 Granddaddy Barlow one blade. A SMKWs special offer only. These also came in black and yellow sawcut. 1999

Then there is also the SMKW offer of the 333 California Toothpicks, another BUCK tang stamped knife like the Barlow but it also was not offered in any Buck catalog. 1999. In 'Stagalon' and jigged bone.

Opps, I almost forgot my single blade 321 Bird Knife sans the gut hook, I liked it so much I put it into my EDC box. Old Bay win.

EDIT: Ok, just for Telc. The Other Barlows. The red 305 for size comparison.

Here is a knife I found this weekend, a Buck model 620 Campmate vintage 1988. It's the Kraton (rubber) handled version of the Buck 120 General. This one is near perfect, happy to find this one after a disappointing purchase on eBay previously. I have only to acquire the 603 Kraton Skinner to complete the set.
