The best known Groundhog Day ceremony occurs each year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. This annual festival traces its origin to 1887, when members of the local Elks Lodge first went to nearby Gobbler’s Knob to consult a groundhog about the weather. The observance developed into an annual tongue-in-cheek ceremony at which the groundhog, given the name “Punxsutawney Phil” in the 1960s, communicates his prediction to the “Inner Circle,” a group of men wearing formal suits and top hats.
Fun Facts
**February 2nd is a "cross quarter" day, half way between winter solstice and spring equinox.
**February 2nd is forty days after Christmas, the Catholic Church observes the Feast which is also known as Candlemas.
**Groundhogs, also known as Woodchucks, are the largest member of the squirrel family.
**The name Woodchuck comes from the Algonquian Indian name for the animal "wuchak"
**Groundhogs typically hibernate about 5 months between October and April.
**Punxsutawney Phil has been correct only about 39% of the time since his first prediction in 1887.
**According to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, Phil is immortal because he drinks a secret elixir.
**On March 23, 2024, it was announced that Phil and his partner, Phyllis, welcomed two new kits, Shadow and Sunny

In popular culture. Groundhog Day 1993 movie Starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell. (2:36 trailer)

I posted this one in the past, but never gave any information on it. This is a custom made by Jason Motchan. Jason does incredible work with copper. I provided two 110 S30V drop point blades and Jason fabricated/engineered a well balanced/functional unique knife. He dubbed this custom creation the "Buck 110 Fighter".

Thanks Roger, for this Sunday Picture Show. Thanks to all who post photos and comment.
I was gifted this 898 Impact, Buck's first automatic knife, after they first came out in 2015. Then purchased the Limited Edition when it came out.

Good morning, and thank you for another SPS! After contemplating a 500 for a loooong time, I finally got my first one earlier this week. IMG_8535.jpegIMG_8536.jpegIMG_8537.jpegFor Ground Hog Day I wanted to give a quick mention of a good friend of mine, Tom. He was the State Trooper in the movie “Ground Hog Day”. He passed away about ten years after the movie was released in 1993, just three weeks before turning fifty. I can’t help but think about him every year on this day. Lance IMG_8538.jpeg

Thanks for the SPS Roger & the Groundhog Day trivia. The movie is one of my wife's favorites, and one Summer, while returning from vacation, she made me take a detour to visit the town Punxsutawney. Here in PA we call groundhogs "whistle pigs", because they sometimes use a high pitched whistle to communicate with each other.

BTW. Phil saw his shadow this morning, so it's going to be six more weeks of Winter.:)

Great jigging on that 110! Can you tell us a little bit about it? Lance
This knife was ordered by my children for Xmas many years ago, this was the original water buffalo offering in the custom shop , African water buffalo have this pattern on their horns, now the buck water buffalo offering is smooth.
This one would be my prize in the collection as the kids designed it and gave it to me they even got it in BG-42 an old buck steel offering and had it engraved with my initials. Its my going out knife with a tan sheath also.

Thanks for the interest Pete
